I agree that the Welsh assembly support the Wales rally GB, and it would be nice if the Uk government could support the British GP. But they are broke at the moment, cant afford any cash at all. Not since they had to re-buff bernie's millions..

No it wouldnt. F1 has more than enough money which is often squandered in silly ways. Just like football.

I would expect both Bernie and Moseley to remember their nationality and support the British GP regardless. Thats what the French would do if they were in charge and its what the Italians do do in motorcycle racing.

The government will never poor millions at a minority sport like F1 - Whilst globally it is very popular, it barely registers for UK viewing / following compared to other sports, even with the new band of stato LH F1 "experts" that keep the venezuaelan kids in work sewing vodaphone onto clothing.

Our unelected leader has enough on his plate controlling the 2012 olympic games budget.

I think the English government can & does support the INDUSTRY that is UK motor racing. They speedily cleared a lot of rubbish out of the way at a local level to get the improved access to Silverstone completed for example. Small businesses (relatively) in general have many encouragements in the UK to allow them to compete on a world stage, which is why Honda, Red Bull, Renault, Mercedes etc have one firm foot in the UK for their international race programmes.
But frankly, who wants to get into bed (!) in any relationship with Bernie's FOA or Max's FIA? They're just not credible people to do business with. You wouldn't trust them as far as you can spit.
Personally I could not be desperately sadder, but if Bernie wants to go to India and Moscow over Silverstone, that's fine. It all looks the same on TV.
imho

Taxes should not be used to subsidise any sport. There are far more important and worthy uses for tax, and personally I pay enough in bloody taxes already.

Let the businesses and individuals that make the money out of the sport fund it.

OK, I know there is no 'English' Government - for want of a better way of saying it 'it was a figure of speech'.

My point was that the Welsh Government is supporting Rally GB and, yes I know about Rally Around Cardiff!

Nothing to do with the amount of money the sport has more about the support needed from Government and not necassarly in cash.

F1 is not a minority sport - did you see the crowd in London when the F1 cars where there a couple of years ago.
Agree with you on the 2012 budget.

F1 teams have a base or a support base in the UK because we are the best at the job not because of Government support.
I didn't say the Government had to give Bernie etc. any cash - support comes in many forms.

I agree apart from encouraging kids into sport, all sports not just running and jumping sports.
But who's paying for 2012? I think you'll find it is you and me.

To those that mentioned the speed camera issues - I remember the backlash from a few years ago and did think that the local police had moved on.

Random stuff that I just remembered. Did the real RAC mid '80's and a lady (name with held to protect the guilty! But I think you will know who she is;)) in a Quattro overtook me on the grass between the outside lane and the armco on a motorway, I was in a service barge and not going slow!

The Olympics grip my st more than anything as I know full well who'll be paying for it (and for how long).

The last thing this country needs is the Olympics, and the place that needs it least of all is London. Is there any evidence that the East End will be anything other than a st hole again a couple of years after the Olympics parade has wandered off elsewhere? And hasn't there been talk of demolishing the stadium after the games. WTF?!

Personally I'd rather we spent all tax money on encouraging kids to become world class engineers, craftsmen, scientists, policemen, nurses, teachers etc etc, instead of a country full of airhead David Beckham wannabes. Taking part in sport should definitively be part of the curriculum. But if people want to do it professionally, get sponsorship to cover it rather than taxes.

Exactly. This isnt necessarially about money. Fi IS British. Mosdt of the teams, most of the team personnel, most of the technology, and most of the World Champions ARE British. In the US Induycars, most of the cars, most of the engines, most of the Technology IS BRITISH.

This should be recognised more then it is, at everyone from thwe highest level downwards. Locals should not complain about the noise, but be proud that what they are hearing/seeing is Britiash technology leading the world. But thats not very British, is it...

It's got a Honda badge on it, but it's designed, developed and built by Ilmor Engineering Ltd, who are a British company.

Ilmor was bought by McLaren Mercedes in 2003 (?) and moved (IIRC) to the team's base in Woking and renamed Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines or something equally catchy. Roger Penske and Mario Illien bought the special projects department back from MB and set Ilmor Engineering Limited, who build the IRL engines and are based in, shock horror ( wink ), Northamptonshire.

Didn't know that last bit, thanks.
