A3 ECU Light

Is there a way through a combination of button presses etc, to determine what and ECU light means?

Unfortunately not, you need to get the car scanned with a diagnostic program like vag.com to accurately confirm the problem, dealers will be able to do it (and normally charge you)& some owners (like me) have it too.

What year A3 is it and where are you based? - I'm in epsom if that's any use?

Failing that, have a look at the link below, i've started a thread on another forum for members to help one another out where possible, maybe someone local to you could help?
