Hi all.

I'd appreciate any advice from anyone who's had battery problems. The cerb' was stood out in the monsoon weather that we've been having lately and the passenger footwell flooded. I stripped the carpets out, mopped up and left it to dry. As a precautionary step I took the ecu out and checked it for damp and let it breathe a bit. When it came to start it spun over but wouldn't fire. I then got masses of warning lights and then nothing. I disconnected the battery and hooked it up to the charger. Canme to it yesterday and the charger indicated the battery was top notch. Tried to start it and nothing again. As a check I turned the lights on with the charger connected and they seemed fine. Disconnected charger and hey-presto, nothing. I'm assuming that this is due to a completely donald-ducked battery. If anyone has had similar experience and can confirm that this is probable I'd be grateful for advice before I go off and spend hard earned on a new battery.

Cheers.

To test your battery before going and getting a new one I would just stick it on an other car using jump leads to see if it has any power stored in it. Disconnect the good battery first though! With regards to getting nothing at all when hooked up I think this is unusual as even with a duff battery you usualy still hear the fuel pump prime etc. have you checked the big fuse? although this would not affect the lights etc as far as I am aware.

Cheers Mc Nasty, I'll try that.

With regard to the big fuse, how meany are there ? When I replaced the coil packs recently I found one near the pack mounting plate. I checked that one at the time and it seemed to be ok. I have heard other owners referring to one in the boot, is this correct ? If so where in the boot is it ?

Cheers.

Just the one I believe located at the back of the engine near the Starter.
If you have had water ingress to your electrics perhaps one (or some) of the fuses in the main fuse box have blown when you tried to start previously.
Hope you get it sorted soon and a cheap fix.

The charger will just indicate when the cells have took all they can. If they're knackered your 78amp battery could show "fully charged" with 2 amps in.

I'm with your knackered battery theory smile

There is a big fuse above the passengers left knee.
Take the trim panel out and find by following the red battery cable.
Fuse is like the one at the back of the engine fixed to the body work.

Trackcar said there is also one near where the positive feed goes into the fuse box but I didn't go looking for that one.
