Scuderia Spider Officially Unveiled?
Low res image of drop-top 430 leads to speculation Scud Spider is on the way...
Speculation over the arrival of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spider went into overdrive over the weekend after a low resolution image appeared in a video of the company’s California world premier. We previously brought you news that an open-top version of the Scuderia was on the cards but some reports suggest Ferrari have subtly confirmed its existence.
During the footage of the unveiling of the California a low res image of what looks like a yellow Scuderia Spider can be seen at the right of the screen. Now motoring blogs are reporting production of the car will be limited to around 300 units and although lightweight, it will weigh around 70kg more than the coupe version.
The 510hp 4.3-liter V8 power unit will stay unchanged and it is expected that the car could be unveiled as soon as November 5th when the Ferrari Challenge at Mugello commences.
Discussion
Surely this will have the body/chassis/engine/suspension/gearbox changes that the Scud coupe gets, but will have the normal interior?
Its the ultimate hardcore track day 430, with a convertible roof. It just doesn't make sense, unless its got the proper interior, and is therefore just a more focussed, faster version.
Or is this aimed at the Elise driver who has won the lottery?

Ferrari in sell-out abuse-of-brand shocker!
What with this, mountains of Fezza-branded crap merchandise, their antics in F1 AND their total inability to produce a good-looking sports car since 1994 (F355),i can't ever remember wanting to own a Ferrari less than i do at the moment.....

I would say that the scuderia and the 360 CS are both very good looking modern cars. What with this, mountains of Fezza-branded crap merchandise, their antics in F1 AND their total inability to produce a good-looking sports car since 1994 (F355),i can't ever remember wanting to own a Ferrari less than i do at the moment.....

Very much agree with this (with a notable edit
). They are in my fantasy garage for sure.As beautiful and perfectly proprotioned as the F355 is, it looks, well, a bit girly/dainty next to the 360/430 (although, that said, still gotta love the 355

I understand that 2009 430 production will be almost exclusively Scuds - both Coupe and Spider. Unlike others here I think the Spider will be awesome with a stripped out interior - rather like a big Radical but much more useable on road. If the chassis etc works then I'd ALWAYS go for an open car on track - just a so much more exciting sensation to a closed one.

Come on guys - Ferrari have made some fantastic open top cars in the past and if thats what the Ferrari buying public want again then who can blame them for meeting a demand. It will still have that wonderful engine, the tremendous roadholding coupled to all the switchable driver aids and safety features; it will sound great and turn heads like nothing much else and best of all it will be a Ferrari. Wish I had one!
