I'm currently trying to find a 964 RS, but I've started considering a 968 Turbo S. First of all, what chance have I got of finding one? And if I do, what will it cost? Does anyone here own one?

How would one compare to a 964RS? Anyone got any opinions?

Ah. Didn't realise they were quite so rare. Forget that bright idea then.

I met a guy who has one in his stable,,,whether true or not but he seemed to think there were 3 rhd made.

i am sure this will corrected or verified on here soon.
Reviews I have read are incredibly favourable as i recall they have approx 300bhp and m030 throughout.

Look on www.968.net occasionally a lhd car comes up for sale, but some of the american enthusiasts end up making one out of a regular 968CS..

For a lhd car if you can find one I think you will be looking at £50k+.

Or you could get a 944 Turbo S with M030 for less than £10k (easy to get 300bhp apparently)

I once saw one for high 30s on www.mobile.de - that site is always worth a look. However, they only made about 13 of the Turbo S, so they are pretty rare Great car, but running one would be a pain re spare parts and knowledgable techs.

I spoke to one of the sales people from Specialist cars of Malton at GTI International this year (they were helping sell Zymol and had a very nice looking Guards Red 964C2, which really looked like new) well inevitably we got talking about Porsche's and I started going on about how much I wanted a 968CS. He told me that they sold a 968 Turbo S quite recently (I darent ask them how much they sold it for, seeing as they are selling Club Sports for £18K when you can pick one up for £12K theses days)

All I can say is, if you can afford one - get it!

Try

www.qv500.com

or

http://vista.pca.org/stl/968t.htm

for a write up on both turbo s and rs. As previously said, one or two a year come up on www.mobile.de, but exchange rates have pushed these up over £40k.

You could always do what Porsche did themselves and drop a tuned 944 turbo lump into a clubsport chassis?!

If the article on page 88 of May 2000 edition of 911& Porsche World is to be believed , then three 968 Turbo RS's were built solely as race cars with an output of ~350bhp.

These cars were reworked as road cars and detuned to 305bhp & renamed the Turbo S. A further 13 were built - so 16 in total before it was killed off. Seems buyers at the time preffered the 964RS.

The article is wrong.
Four turbo RS were built and they still exist.
The prototype (red) is currently for sale in the US by rennsport. It was raced at Le Mans in 1993 (then painted yellow).
The second car (yellow) is in SA.
The third car (black) is in the UK.
The fourth car (white/blue) is owned by Paragon Products in the US.

Fourteen turbo S were built : 11 MY93 and 3 MY94.
The blue car Jérôme mentions is believed to be the only one sold in France, it is the last 1993 model year car. The front panel was replaced with a 968 NA unit, apprently because of front damage. Also the front splitter is missing. It was once reported with turbo issues.
