I'm not sure that is still true TBH, although I would choose one over any Peugeot.
Renault 'own' Nissan now and many parts are shared so its hard to know.

What year? I think they had the SR16VE in them, which is a nice little motor - 200bhp/8600rpm in nismo tune IIRC.

The 1.6 (SRi) Almera was the 95-00 ones, and are very good cars. 100bhp twin cam not amazingly quick but the 1.6 wasn't mean't to be.

Does everything you need and is all you'd expect from a 90's Nissan..I've seen them with near 200,000 miles and still going strong every day. The only problem is rust you can get lucky and get a rust free one or a total wreck, but the SRi's are so cheap (few hundred)...it's alot of car for next to nothing motoring. The 5 door version would be good for a family car as there quite big, esp compared to a 206.

But if you wan't one for performance spend the extra and get the GTi..there also very cheap for early ones now. And have the 150bhp SR20DE engine...can't go wrong.

SR16VE only came in JDM versions...(Pulsar VZR) bluetop was 175bhp and redtop (N1 version) was 197bhp.

Love my Almera, love Nissans. They are insanely solid cars.
