Paris '08: Audi S4
New S4 gets a supercharged V6
Audi is wheeling out a new engine for its ‘S’ line-up – a 3.0-litre supercharged TFSI V6 which will sit in the nose of the new S4. The supercharger is understood to use a couple of four vane rotors and sits in the valley of the engine block.
The air is fed through a pair of intercoolers to the combustion chambers where a direct injection system provides the fuel. The S4 saloon and Avant will have 330bhp and 325lb ft of torque fed through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a new seven-speed S-Tronic dual clutch transmission.
0-60mph takes 5.1 seconds and top speed is limited to 155mph. The S4’s quattro system channels 40% of the torque to the front axle and 60% to the rear.
The car will debut at the Paris Motor Show next week.

not quite fast enough to take it out of range of the 3.0 tdi and the 335d..strange one from audi
But those other two are drivetrains setup for wafting and economy, not thrashing around the backroads... listening to a glorious supercharged V6 petrol soundtrack...
I'm hoping Audi have kinda realised speed isn't everything and made a car that is just good fun to hoon around in, while also being pretty efficient and still pretty nippy

Autocar reviewed this engine in the A6 last week.

Just can't imagine your average executive picking this over the diesel when its nearly as quick, way more frugal and cheaper to tax etc and cheaper..so that leaves petrol heads..so would you buy this over an M3 or would you be waiting for the new RS4 or the IS-f?
