I live on my own in a flat I saved up to buy with money I earnt my fkingself. I get a little bit off council tax that's it.

I hear that tax credits can help but is it worth bothering & would I get anything from it if I did?

Has anyone who is living single get anyhitng from this government that they ought to share to mtry and make life that bit more bearable?

Doesn't the advert on the radio say work more than 30 hours a week but earn less than 13k?

Go abroad, change your nationality, come back claime asylum or some other excuse, and they will shower you with gifts, accommodation, food, money. You name it, it's free.............

Fortunate I have only tried to claim dole money one, when I was made redundant at 50, because I had managed to save just over 4k in the bank, I got sod all, "Oh but sir, we pay your stamp for you"......

Do not get involved with tax credits, the whole system is an appallingly administered nightmare. You will spend the rest of your life with your tax-code changing twice weekly and will, according to HMRC, end up owing them more money than you ever receive. Don't, just, don't, go there.

Keeps all those 'skilled' civil servants in jobs though doesn't it?

st isn't it.

how big is your flat? if more than a one bed, get a water meter fitted. the rates are set for the size of the house, not how much you actually use. for me [one me tod, 4 bed house] this was quite a saving.

big piss boiler for me is that i live in a conservation area and the council are giving out grants left right and centre to developers and dole bludgers. because i have a steady job they told me too go swivel when i enquired about eligibility.

Anyone in that situation won't be living in their own flat, I doubt its do-able comfortably for £13k in most areas.

Its a Joke, im not single but, the council basically told me they would be able to help us if i didnt have a job, So basically i'd be better off if i was living on benifits, they'd pay my rent plus i'd get money every week topped up by tax credits....

I've got a brand new 2 bed flat, high spec so eco-mental friendly but still my bills are gi-massive imo. If I get cold I do some weights or put a jumper on. The ol'dear said I sould check out tax credits. I thought it best to ask here to save me hours of form filling and waiting on hold.

If you get really cold, spend your evenings in the libary. It's free even for single people.

Why when I have an infinite source of reading material called the internet at home?

I think you've either missed the point of my thread or are trying to be funny?

I didn't think it was possible to be cold in the same room as an Xbox360??

Sort of trying to be funny. But when I was a POOR student, I often stayed in the libary working until I was chucked out, to save money on the coin meters.

We are an honest hard working tax paying home owning couple. We aren't entitled to any grants or help.
2 doors down they laze around all day, don't work, make the place look messy, and pick up benefits for them and their 3 kids to a sum that puts the same roof over their head and a half decent car on the drive.
Why?
I stand to lose my home if I don't pay my mortgage. They are guaranteed their house for life and don't have to worry about mortgage rates and house values. They pay less than half what I do to have the same house, get grants for their designer clothes, benefits to buy their smokes and booze, and money handed to them to run a BMW...while I pay for my luxuries like I do my essentials.
Drives me mad...

Welcome to Nu Labia's GREAT Britain.

And - remember - GB said in his speech yesterday that he wants to make things fairer. Guess what that WON'T mean ... (yes, it WON'T mean that those who work are rewarded for it, while those who don't aren't.)

Oli.

You've made a mistake. You're supposed to have been married four times by 25 and have 12 kids living off the welfare state. Then the government will give you money.
