anyone heard this advertised on the radio?

you basically text your full name and age to the 5 digit text number, and it texts you back with alsorts of stuff about yourself, or anyone else!

Had to try it, and the reply was a little spooky.

it was fairly general, but it did use words and phrases that are common between me and my mates.

Would try again, but don't want to keep handing 1.50 over to whoever this company is

i tried it on a couple of mates phones, the reply sounded nothing like me or them

we were all rather dissapointed and I even told them it was a free service so it wasnt the cash that was a let down (yet)

It isn't.

All your doing is paying for a small indian boy to enter your name in to google and text back whatever pops up. The important words in the advert are "artistic license"

Why do people use these things, there are hundreds of them now AQA etc. And who funds them? It must be in the small print but surely its illegal to charge for information known to be incorrect?

Tell me what colour pants i'm wearing.

AQA have a complaints procedure and usually follow through and will come good. Don't know about BONGO. 118118 any question you should avoid like the plague.

Unfortunately it was nowhere near as amusing as it could have been.

Let me get this straight, you paid someone 1.50 to look you up on google? And you're considering doing it again?? Don't you have access to a computer? Or did you text them to post up here on your behalf?

I'm bored and have a works phone, might be entertaining to start an argument by text with a chap in India about my nakedness or lack of.
No hang on thats justifiying the whole thing!

I did complain to 118 118 once when they gave me the wrong number for a hospital I was visiting, and the lady I spoke to must have got the hump, I received no word of a lie, 30 texts including the number of all the "embarasing" illness departments of all London hospitals over the following 24hrs! I only wanted St Thomas' physio dept, honest.

curiosity more than anyting. Lad in the office tried it, and it told him his car colour and his nickname from school. The reply I got didn't correspond to anything on a google search.

Just wondereing where they get their information from?

intercepting text messages?, emails?, who knows! makes you wonder though!

They're called 'ego texts' in the business and they have their means for using the web to extract as much info on your as possible. If they're any good they can usually find out things about you from previous questions etc.

Googling yourself can be a real eye-opener when no-one else shares your name.
You suddenly find out how much time you have wasted of your life on the Internet... smile
