Given current global economic uncertainty and recently kaput companies such as Zoom, is there anyone on p&p with some knoweledge of the aviation industry that could advise on which companies are more stable? I'm planning to book flights to Japan next Feb - I'll use a credit card to be safe, but it would still be a major PITA if the flights were cancelled. I think my options on this route are:

BA
Virgin Atlantic
KLM
Air France.

I can't see any of the major airlines having a problem, to be honest. Small players like Zoom suffered just as much from the oversaturation of budget operators as any wider economic issues.

American may be in better shape than many of the US based airlines but I wouldn't class them as a safe bet. About to go through another phase of redundancies I believe.

JAL are pretty good.. as are Emirates

My company are use BA religously but have recently started to send the top dogs on emirates when they go to dubai,

United in the states are in a terrible hole atm....

Air canada are ok for the forseeable future... manging to get out of their hole i believe and actually making profit again.
