I have IL-2 1946 on my creaky old PC and its excellent although my PC doesn't really do it justice. I can't help feel it may fail on consoles though. Thoughts?

On the contrary, I don't see why it can't work. Remember there are no complicated avionics to handle, and with basic flight controls there is no reason why the number of buttons and key combinations on your 360 pad can't handle it.

Remember this is a 7 year old flight simulator, its a generation behind current console capability so a 360 is easily capable of running it, minus the requirement to run a bloated operating system at the same time.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing a big hit with this title smile

I'd put money on it not looking anywhere near as good as it does in those screenshots. Most fast-jet simulators don't have that level of terrain fidelity.

Il2 models small maps, so it can pack a lot of detail into a relatively small area

In game footage here, the scenery looks every bit as good as the screenshots, just don't expect to be able to fly to Germany and back.

Wow.

Does it look that good on the PC or has there been a revamp for the xbox?

Ace combat 6 is pretty damn impressive to look at on the 360 too imho.

looks amazing, it was good on the PC but a bit of multiplayer dogfighting with friends sounds brilliant

Yeah its been re-vamped for consoles, Birds of prey is a console only project, using the IL2 source code by through an entirely different development team. There is no PC version as the original IL2 development team are working on Storm of War - Battle of Britain.

Looks awesome! I'll definitely be getting this. I love Heroes of the Pacific on the original xbox.

http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/objects/142/14258704.html says TBA 2009.. so dont hold your breath. Does look good though..... Not played the pc version but have been looing for a decent dogfighting game for ages and this looks like it fits the bill.

Anyopne have any idea about the multiplayer setups.... i.e if it doesnt have split screen i probably wont get it.. cant fathom how developers fail to include split screen play (both online and offline) on so many of their games COD4 for instance.... and no im not using the headset because I will look and feel like a right gayer.

The console version does not appear to be a simulator. All the shots I have seen are outside and 3rd person, expect an arcade shooter full of fail.

On the upside hopfuly they will do a patch for 1945 to up the gfx engine

Oleg and co are developing a sequel to the original il2 on pc called "storm of war" It will work like the old il2 in that they will add more planes/campaigns over time. the first instalment will focus on the battle of Britain.

It's due for release late this year smile

I have heard about the new Battle of Britain game from Maddox for years - have all but given up looking forward to - it seems they're just using the old engine for a console arcade type game. frown

If they make a new PC one then the physics and graphics should put most other stuff to shame, IL2 was miles ahead of everything else plane related when it came out and was a much better sim than the MS combat versions.

Doesnt someone do an Ultra Pack which updates all the graphics and physics and makes all the AI planes flyable? It also adds things like oil starvation on negative G manouveurs, if you like that kind of thing lol

Wasn't that the one due for release last year? looks promising, love the freedom of a proper PC flight sim, i want to be able to just fly around and look for trouble, i want to fly over to Germany and staffe some jerry and fly back.

Xbox would never let you do this, the flight model would be arcade.

Still fly the original Bob and the big update. Gone back to arma aswell for my fix.
