I am looking to buy a fault code reader (K series)... so was thinking the diagnostic sockets are standard, or rather after 1995 the On Board Diagnostic(OBD11) socket is standard on all cars (or should be!)... any recommendations on a good one?

Cheers

dont bother, you cant use a reader on the S1 elise. I bought one thinking I could and they are not OBD11 compliant and mines a 2001 Series 1 !!! I was soooooo anoyed. Only way you can use a reader is with the Lotus gear and that costs a lot!

So Lotus have installed a different lead and plug from the ECU? That’s interesting because I thought they all had to be the same from 95. My beemer OBD socket looks standard.

Could you get a lead from another K series model and change it? there must be a way round it.

I think 2001 was the year from which all cars sold here had to support the basic features of ODB. Be aware that the Elise will be E-ODB not ODB-2; some readers do not fully support both, although most do.

My 2004 S2 111S certainly supports it. I bought a USB adapter which plugs into the car and my laptop for a few quid off ebay.
