I'm extending a patio at the back of my house & as I didn't generate too much waste, I rather stupidly assumed I could dispose of this at the local council tip (the council that I pay £150+ per month for a few 'services').

So 2 weeks ago I took 6 bags of top soil there, got a minor bking as the bags were bigger than standard, but managed to get rid of them anyway.

Last night I returned with the remainder, 5 bags. The tip gestapo tell me that my numberplate had been recognised by the surveilance system & they had it noted that I took 6 bags there on the 10th. Residents are only allowed 6 bags every 28 days!. I didn't know they took things so seriously, I wonder if the no doubt hideously expensive numberplate recognition system pays for itself?.

The Civic Amenity site promoting green-ness made my 10 mile journey a wasted one!.

I'll have to get some of those trousers that the prisoners wore in 'The Great Escape' & start dumping it around the streets/town hall!

You will find your local enforcement team love to take people like you to court, if they find any wrong doing. Be careful.

I wouldn't condone fly tipping. I doubt if they could do me for trying to throw too much rubbish away, could they...

Great isn't it? You'll find that there aren't any cameras at your handy local flytipping site. Which is another glowing example of Nu Labia's genius joined up thinking.

Make up a number plate, affix them just outside the tip, drive in, offload, drive out, remove false plates. Job done.

Obviously this is illegal and not actually recommended but an idea

Ask a friend to give you a lift?

Or give one bag of topsoil to each of your neighbours - just stick it on the flowerbeds or rake into the lawn as a top dressing.

well the council has control over their own site

how can they cctv every possibly flytipping site? if they did i am sure you would be on here moaning about them putting up cctv needlessly.

Dont they just make you sick. Rather than put the cameras in fly tip hot-spot to catch people dumping on the streets, they come up with crap like this. Where as they should be trying to encourage you to use the council recycling centres, not giving people another reason to just dump stuff on the pavement. So it seems you should have got youself a skip and let it all go to landfill.rolleyes

Soil? I wouldn't even bother tipping it, I'd just chuck it into the nearest river.

My council moaned at me when I filled my garden refuse wheelie bin. It was too heavy apparently, and also they did not consider paving slabs as garden waste. Unutterably unbearable blithering idiots, the lot of them. biggrin
Next time, I'm going to courier all my waste to the council offices.

Have they passed a new law then stating how much rubbish we are allowed to produce !!!

TBH I would be on the phone to the council in the morning asking for this in writing and the local papers the following day smile

Ask them for a copy of the law/document which imposes a maximum soil allowance per month - then you can take legal action.

Yes, a law has been passed, just found it on their website:-

Please note that demolition and construction waste such as soil and rubble and DIY materials are classified as industrial waste, not household waste, irrespective of their point of origin.
The Council will accept a small of amount of this type of waste from residents carrying out their own home improvements.
The site will accept the equivalent of one car boot load (6 sacks) of this type of waste per trip. Only one trip per month is permitted.
Please remember the first disposal route for rubble and landscaping waste is via a privately hired skip. Alternatively this material must be taken to a facility which accepts commercial waste where it can be weighed and charged for accordingly.

I thought that council tips were meant to encourage recycling???? or should we all just dump it by the wayside like the average pikey and let the council clear that up (after 5 weeks)?????
