Hi all,

What do you reckon of this quote for a lotus elise S1 111s. I'm 21 with 2 years no claims and 2(yes 2) accidents both deemed my fault on my record....all were with my current insurer. They have quoted me £1303 pounds. Does that sound fair or is it too much? think I could get it cheaper elsewhere?

thanks lads

If you have a second car you could get classic car insurance - there is some links on here somewhere. My mate is paying under £400 on a S1 160

Your age is against you (only on paper, great age to be otherwise!) and especially the accident record.

All you can do is spend a day on the phone or net and see what happens. I think you will be directed to call as the net cannot work out the risk of your accident record.

If a company comes close to the quote, you can always say ' oh, I've been quoted 1100 quid ( or lower, if you wish ) so can you beat that?'

They may well do, as the idea with all new business now is to get you on the books by offering discounts, then shaft you at renewal in the belief you cannot be arsed to go through all the work again of new insurance.

Garage, agreeing to low annual miles, higher excess, putting your girlfriend ( maybe even your Mum ) on the policy can help, too.

You could try Hagarty. I am 23 and currently insure my TVR Chimaera with them and pay £400 admittedly as a second car, I bought an old Ford Fiesta for a couple of hundred pounds to see me through the bad weather. I have been toying with the idea of an Elise and i contacted them to see how much would cost and basically it was only going to go down. Could be worth a go!

Any Idea if a company car counts?

My Elise is my only car and I was told I could have a classic policy which also included business use. The only thing that put me off is you don't earn no claims on a classic policy.

All they asked for was the type of car I used everyday, I know a few of the guys from our local TVR club all have company cars for everyday and use them. Most pay around £200 for their insurance through Hagarty due to them being older then myself!

That sounds very good to me - check the small print. No offence, but with your age and driving record I wouldn't touch you with a bargepole on an Elise. Not that I'm an insurance company.

Hi, who did you get that quote from and is that in your name? As I'm in the same postion as you 21 with 4 years NCB and no accidents but the best I've got so far is about £1400.
