Mail order proper beer to the USA?

Hello peeps,
I have a good friend currently living in the USA and the lack of proper beer is driving him nuts. Does anyone know a company who will send a selection of ales to a USA address? All the suppliers I've found on the net so far appear to be UK only.

Alternatively, if I just buy some from the supermarket and box them up myself, are there any legal issues with sending beer through the post to the USA?

Contrary to popular belief, you can get proper beer in the US. Look for the local breweries. Near me we have 'Saranac', 'Magic Hat', 'Empire', 'Ommegang', etc... Tell him/her to have a look...

I've sent a couple of bottles of single malt to one of my colleagues in the US. One went Royal Mail via whoever and another with DHL. Both got there fine, and both were declared contents

There are good local beers in the USA. Also you can find British beers in good bars. I've drunk Theakstons there.

To the OP, tell your friend to find a decent micro-brewery, there are quite a few of them around and some make decent beer (as in ale, not lager).
