Paris '08: Bentley Arnage Final Series

Final fling for old school Bentley...

It really is true that you don’t miss things until they are gone. Take the Bentley Arnage, the stately head of the marque that seems to have been around forever and will stay forever. When we found out that the last hoorah was being wheeled out for the Paris Show it was with a twinge of sadness.

The GT series may be bristling with technology but this old school Bentley is a link to the past and this is where it ends – the aptly named Final Series. The car celebrates 10 years of the Arnage, 50 years of the legendary V-8 powertrain, and 90 years of the marque itself. It is based on the Arnage T and gets the most powerful version of the 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V8, packing 500bhp and 738 lb ft of torque. It also gets the T’s 6-speed auto and running gear.

Externally there are subtle hints that this is a special run-out model, due for cancellation next year, including wheels and tyres from the Brooklands coupe and the ‘Le Mans’ lower front bumper. Other features include the body-coloured front and rear lamp bezels, the retractable bonnet ornament and the jewel petrol cap as standard equipment. Inside there are handmade wood accents, leather surfaces and ‘Final Series’ plates on the door sills.

Handcrafted in Crewe, the Final Series will be limited to a run of 150 cars with pricing yet to be announced.

It's not the same now that they quote power and torque figures, rather than just saying "Sufficient".

EFA: Actually I think they used to say "Adequate"

What are they replacing it with? I hope the old V8 continues.

I suppose that leaves the LR Defender and the Morgan 4/4 as the remaining designs that have direct links to pre-sold off British car industry.

Amazing achievement for the V8 and a car that has its roots back to the 1966 Silver Shadow.

Quite sad to see these go, was always an admirer of this car. Why did they decide to stop producing it? Have sales fallen off? If I was 4-5 supercars rich, this would probably be on the list.

I hope they replace this, it's the last of the 'proper' Bentleys, along with the Brooklands. The GT and Flying Spur don't look like Bentleys and are not bought by people who should be allowed withing 100 feet of a Bentley. I liked the way that Bentley maintained a true distinction between the two cars (GT+derivatives and Arnage+derivatives). Let's just hope this is a marketing ploy to get rid of the last cars and really they're just going to replace it with a re-worked Arnage smile

I too don't like the pink steering wheel, but a black leather interior with black exterior, blacked out windows would be the ultimate in luxurious quick stuff

Bad aim? I mean, you could miss it even if were here if you weren't exactly on target.
shoot

Actually, the phrase from Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" is "Don’t it always seem to go That you don't know what you’ve got ‘Til it's gone." And please, no more covers. The original Joni Mitchell version is still the greatest and anyone other than her singing it is just embarrassing him/herself.

Who spilt the beanz then............. but I do think the Bently is just fab, how a Bentley should look like, none of this modern stuff. Just wish my 6 numbers would come up, having sat in one at a car show in Birmingham, I know why those with the money buy them.

I think the carpet in the footwell probably costs more than my frontroom carpet!
