I know, not exactly an exciting thread for a Wednesday afternoon, but I've found a few hotels I'd like to go to, but not sure what there is to do in the local area.

Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire
Kenilworth, Warwickshire
Ashford, Kent
Crewe, Cheshire

I knew that'd be said straight away. Although I can't say it interests me, personally. The OH might like it though laugh What can you do there that relates to good ol' Bill?

Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire - The bard and all his accoutrements
Kenilworth, Warwickshire - Dunno, there's a stately home there I think
Ashford, Kent - Train to France? hehe
Crewe, Cheshire - Lots if you're into trains
See above. I'd go for Stratford first...

TBH, I don't think he's currently in a condition to be receiving house guests...

Ashford: Leave. Fast, don't stop, don't wait, just leave. Dreadful in every way that dreadful can be measured. Makes Hull and Grimsby look glamourous.

Loads, its a tourist destination and there are loads of things. The park is nice, shopping is good and the theatre is good. As is Shakies home and a load of other historic buildings and places. Well worth a visit.

Castle is pretty good and you can get some very good photos due to the unusual colours. Well worth a look around and as a result a few other touristy things around there.

Struggling now, but International train terminal? Oh, and isnt there a tank on the high street? Pubs maybe?

Which hotel around Stratford?
I've stayed at Ettington Manor a couple of times and love the place.

Which hotel in Kenilworth? It's quite pleasant here, plenty of good places to eat and drink, and the castle's nice, but it's fairly sleepy.

Why pick a shortlist of hotels first?

Try it in reverse order and trips away will be much easier to plan... smile

Depends how old you are and what you are into I guess.

Kenilworth is ok if you want olde worlde rusticness - although the high street is all being dug up at the minute (unless they have finished now?)

Castle is ok to go to - good photos as said, good place to take kids - especially if you go on one of the special days when they do falconry and jousting and stuff

some of the pubs are good in Kenilworth, but that is about it really - it is close to Leamington Spa which has some good pubs/bars etc

Just make sure you DO NOT head into coventry!!!! - unless it is just so you can get on the Fosse Way - but stop if you get too close to Cov - will ruin any day out!

Head down the motorway to Gaydon and the British Motor Heritage Centre!

Thanks for that Ewen. Ashford is coming off the list, as is Crewe!

Hmmm, I think 'sleepy' would be perhaps a bit too slow paced. It needs to have something to do there! laugh

Just purely as I have no idea for where to take my OH, and I saw an offer of 2 nights BBD with QHotels, and I thought it was reasonably priced @ c.£230 for both nights.
