My thinking may be wrong here but if the Griff weighs say 1100kg and power at the rear wheels is around 280 bhp that is 3.9kg per hp. So if I was looking for say another 40 bhp that would be the same as losing 156kg. What would be the combined weight of all the bits that could be sensibly dispensed with ? The car is already without Radio, Speakers, CD player and has a smaller battery so the easy bit is already done (that saved 23kg = 5.9hp). Shouldn’t think the easily removable trim would come to much but the window winders, window glass and all the heater bits and bobs must add up to a fair bit, how much does the fuel tank weigh? Anybody done this and weighed the removed bits ?

Dont think the fuel tank is heavy?

Alternators weigh a ton! there must be smaller alternatives available?

Carbon seats and lightweight carpet is something I've considered (I have some CF seats and they are light as a feather)

The other thing I have always pondered is if some of the lightweight alloy Ford style uprights used in various other specials might be able to be adapted?

Welcome back Spend, I hadn't noticed you were around again and it's a welcome return.

Seats weigh a ton in my experience.

Leccy windows weigh a lot.

Roof ?

You?

Wheels?

Exhaust - CATS and rear silencer - exhaust was bloody heavy when I changed mine.

Seat must be a big one.

I seem to remember Steve Heath doing alloy uprights you could give him a try not sure if he does them for the Griffith though.

Dropping weight in any car not only will give you a better relation beetwin power and weight but a lighter car will also brake better and most of the times will hold twisties better...

I have quite an experience stripping my classic C3 vette, the model year '77 in stock form weight around 3.600lbs, i've dropped it to 2.750lbs, around 1.260kgs (I've contemporary increased the power to 575hp...just in case;)).

I'm planning to undergo my griffith 500 the same way, I've already changed the radiator for one in alluminium and i've changed the good comfy leather seats for two lightweight Sparcos...my next moves are:

take away heater and its ancillaries
take away power windows, windows and practically empty both doors.
Find the lightest wheels available and fix them right there
Use track bias ply tires (they weight half of the radial ones, got them on the vette).
Swap the stock windshield for a lexan one.
drop both windshield wipers and motor.
gut the hood of its heatshield
No radio, speakers and amplifier.
race battery, less then half weight of the stock one.

Anymore ideas? apart putting myself on diet as wellhehe

My interior went on a crash diet, changed carpets to lighter weight, changed seats to lotus elise, replaced dash pod, centre console and door cards with carbon fibre but then put a TR Lane roll bar and fire extinguisher in! Doh.

Compbrake appear to sell them. It's the carriers, particularly at the rear that weigh a lot. Be a bit pricy knocking up some cast ally ones though yikes

My calipers weigh 3.6 kg. Not sure how much the normal ones weigh but mine certainly feel lighter.

I'm a chimaera owner but forgive me for popping over. Say mine weighs 1100kg and produces 240bhp (4l mild cam no other mods) thats4.6kg/ton.

I'm currently losing weight and will drop 50kg by the time I am finished. That makes 4.4kg/ton. Of course not everyone is fortunate enough to be a bloater.

Well yes I thought that but reasoned he meant the carpeted, door handle, ciggi lighter bit of plastic leather covered part. I have had that off a few times when delving in the door and seem to remember it was quite light and flimsy.
