Just been told in my dealings with the insurance company, that new classifications have been set for insurance groupings. The Ro is now in group 45 :-0 No idea what they go up to?!?!

You can bet it will be an excuse to load the premiums though...

Must admit, i never thought the Monaro (even though i drive one) is really a group 20 out of 20 insurance group car! As much as i love it.....it's no Bugatti Veyron is it. laugh

I'd agree. I have the same problem with the Chim. I mean, come on. Most hot hatches are more powerfull these days.

These new ratings could actually help reduce the premiums.

That said, for the 2nd year running, insurance on the Chim has actually been cheaper than my tatty old Disco. This year I'm paying an extortiante £110 eek
£110 for a TVR Chimera.......Blimey. Who's that through?

Actually, they vary massively from insurer to insurer based on the quote engine they're utilising.. but hey, that's not really that important!

It's the number of monaro's suffering total loss that will increase premiums I would imagine.

I suspect that those of us here (myself and Hex included) are paying the price already. Having already been unfortunate enough to destroy a monaro it has not put me off continuing to own one.

Just saved £900 by changing from APlan, the underwriter didnt want to renew for some reason. Comparison sites etc all suggested around £1500 range.
Renewed through Greenlight and Highway for a bit over £600 thats including some business travel. 5yr NCB, Inner London postcode.

Tempting fate I'd call it....

Of course, premiums will only increase for those of us that have totalled them!!! Which is why I probably won't be getting another one just yet (Sadly)...

Not so. The more Monaros get wrecked, statistically the greater the risk in insuring one, so potentially all premiums could be affected. What probably helps is that there are relatively few cars to begin with, so perhaps no one individual insurer has experienced enough Monaro losses to dramatically affect their rates.

Insurance rates aren't just about power or speed of a vehicle, they are about risk. Obviously if you have already stuffed one you will be seen as a greater risk, and loss of NCB will enter the equation too.

If I was a motor underwriter and read some of the stuff on this forum, I don't think I'd want to insure them at all.....

Yeah, but the huge increase in value do to the 'increasing' scarcity will no doubt offset the insurance cost...rolleyes

Same, replacement now bought and back behind the wheel of one where I belong smile

Insurance wanted £15.75 to change the details form the Astra estate I had while I had no monaro, to the new monaro I have. I was happy with that price for the remainder of the policy term.
Next years premium will group by about £300.
