Hello all,

I'm posting this query on behalf of my father. He currently has a green '93 W124 300TE which is getting toward the end of its life. It has around 220,000 miles on the clock and some pretty severe body rot on the driver's side rear arch and front wing.

He's on the lookout for a new car and has his eye on a 2000, X reg E320 CDi Avantgarde Estate. It has around 77,000 miles on the clock and I'm unsure of the colour but I think it is silver. Currently it's up for £7,000 - more than he really wanted to spend (although not by much).

So my question really is - would you consider £7,000 to be a reasonable price for this car? If not, what price area should he be looking to pay for it?

Also interested what he might get for his 300TE but that is less of a concern (I reckon it's probably worth about £1,000 given its state).

Many thanks,
Leo

in today's climate of economic woes , no-one is standing in line for a bargain - try £5k for the E320Cdi and see what happens.

Also I think £1k for your 300E is too optimistic in consideration of your description - maybe <£500 for parts.

FYI , I was bid £13.5k from a Merc dealer for my 2 year old E280 CDi avantgarde w/36k miles - it was a £35K car new just 2 years ago!! It was bid at £17.5k back in April...its a cracking car and I'll be keeping it and running it into the ground at these prices.

It depends on the spec if its poverty spec then its a bit over priced and if its loaded its cheap

My advice would be to get a value from wisebuyer.com and adjust for extras and condition

E320 CDi's are always going to be sought after its the best car in the range imo

That is very OTT money wise.
I have just sold a 51 plate E320CDI Estate, Elagance with leather and climate (but no command, no 7 seats and no parking sensors) with one prev owner (my dad), 104K, FSH (latest 2 not Merc), a few rust spots but apart from that in great condition. I swapped it in for a mates CLK Convertible and in effect took 4.5K for the car. If you look around the prices vary a lot. I would say that £7K was the price for that car a few months ago but all cars have taken a beating of late.

Absolutely - if he's adverse to crap build quality and body rot, the last thing he wants to buy is a yr 2000 W210 E Class.

Get the W124 sorted. Front wings are common rust points on the W124. The wings bolt on and are under £45 at GSF. Rear arches can be easily repaired. All for far less than the depreciation he will suffer on the proposed W210.

200k miles is fine for these if they have been maintained properly.

In terms of value £1k will be a stretch unless its in vgc and has good history. Otherwise £600. (IMHO)
