Anyone own a Subway Franchise?
Discussion
Is it not a bit late for that bandwagon ? They're all over the place when I come back to the UK.
They tried them here in Norway but they seemed to die a death.
Just an idea - http://www.ihop.com/index.php?option=com_content&a... given the English appetite for eating rubbish.

iHop is more like a Little Chef / Happy Eater business rather than Subway which is fast take away food. In 'n' Out burger would be a winner but they don't franchiseThey tried them here in Norway but they seemed to die a death.

Wouldnt have thought so, many small towns have 2 or 3 Mc D's / Burger kings and they seem to do fine. They tried them here in Norway but they seemed to die a death.

(3 MC'ds and 2 BK in Basingstoke)
For what its worth I quite like Suubway! :P
I absolutely love Subway sarnies.....
Anyway, you need to be careful with the location of a potential franchise. Some places (Nottingham for example) have far too many. Theres about 8 in the city centre of Notts, which is far too many.
There isnt one in Meadowhall IIRC, though im guessing the rent isnt cheap there. You could make a fortune if you find somewhere without one (and hope that someone doesnt open one next door)

They allow this? Quite a lot of franchise businesses wouldn't.You have to remember "Subway" is in the business of selling franchises. The Person who buys the franchise is the one selling food. If he go's bust Subway will simply sell another franchise and so on.
Thats not to say it's a bad idea to buy one. And things may have changed since I read about this. But it can be a problem.

I've always wondered why someone doesn't buy out Little Chef and turn it into a Denny's chain? I love Denny's (I know, many in the US see it as downmarket. I don't care).
Another Denny's fan here. However you would end up with essetially the same business model but under a different brand, don't see why it would have survived when Little Chef couldn'tsneijder said:

& wish they'd come over here. "I'll take the Rooty Tooty, Fresh & Fruity please"

I fail to see why anyone would need to tie up with a franchise to open what is in effect a glorified butty shop, what skills do you need to put a bit of ham lettuce and tomato on a bun??? You can be free to buy your supplies where you want.
There are huge ingoing costs, a continual ongoing share of your profit to Subway, and probably legally tied into a lease for 20 odd years.....
I can understand maybe M'cdees, but even there the upfront start up costs are enormous, probably a quarter of a million pounds or more.....
I prepare to be enlightened though.....

Judging by the queue out the door at the local Subway, and the total emptiness of the sandwich shop just around the corner... Better to have 50% of a lot than 100% of a little..Munter said:

A lot of the business forums on the web are full of people with some pretty scathing comments on Subway, as they feel they saturate the area with stores and leave it to survival of the fittest.
Good product though, I go there over pretty much anywhere else.
