Hi all.

Two of my alloys have started to develop a nice blister. How bad does this have to get before Vauxhall will treat it as a warranty issue?

Do they still go round and round?
If so, i wouldn't bother, just get em sprayed or powder coated your chosen colour - 10 times better and save yourself the stress of arguing with a bunch of you know whats.......

Thanks John.

Thats a top idea.

But to be honest, this aint about vanity - it's about crap quality and what is reasonable in warranty coverage.

This car will be three years registered next January and I'm about to hit 60K miles, so just wanted the big V to fork out for their product under their warranty if it's their responsibility.

If there's a problem and you havent curbed the rims Vauxhall warranty has to replace them.

Tim,
I might have been misinterpreted here.
Tongue in cheek, i meant if you take em to VX, they are like to say something like "well they still work don't they?" or "what do you expect if you have done so many miles??"
I assume your CV8 was built 04, if so, you might want to make sure any other "faults" don't come to light after your warranty is up, such as peeling door handles, Gearbox blow ups - mine happened at 50k miles or so, warped disks etc...
If had MY warranty time again, i would go all guns blazing (as i did shortly after my warranty expired!)
Hope you catch 'em on a good day.
PS
Did i mention leaky door cards
Edit
Oh and 60k miles warranty limit?

I think the fine print says wheels are not covered. I read up on it just before my warantee expired as mine have gone on the sides of the spokes. I'm thinking of having mine refurbished next year when the tyres need replacing.

Thanks for the feedback.

Don't like the sound of the 'small print' reference above.

So far, it's good news and bad news. The dealership agrees it's looking like shoddy quality and a probable warranty issue. Alas, they needed to refer it to their roving Monaro expert. He then referred them to regional head office. Regional HO have to send the big cheese for a personal inspection! This appointment is yet to be scheduled and based on the 'small print' remark, may not happen at all.

Here's a pic. All wheels are doing this:

The warranty is up when I hit 60k miles...I'm at 57k, so I'd be very greatful to hear about what issues my car might be starting to have which I should definitely chase Vauxhall for a fix before 60k.

Thanks again.

That's crap workmanship. My mate had her new SLK two months and that started happening. They had'nt been primed properly(or something) Surely as you've reported it and they have acknowledged its a warranty problem before you ht 60K then they have to honor it.

Here is mine on the spokes. Middle is OK. When I asked Drive they too agreed they look shabby and enquired had they already bean poorly refurbished! When I collected the car from service the receptionist cleverly kept me hanging on until the "lee" I had to spoke to had gone home. I didn't bother going back, I never made a successful warrantee claim for anything.

Good luck bathCV8.

Update

Local dealership says they've arranged for the regional service manager to come to town for a personal inspection...of my wheels.
Based on the above comments, he might just prefer to reject the warranty claim in person. But it's a bit positive so far.

The good news is that this is the perfect opportunity to demand warranty action on any other CV8 issue.

So the big question is what are the known possible CV8 issues I can confirm and dump on the Big Guy under warranty? This is my last chance given I'm now past 58k miles.

Any thoughts?

So the Big Cheese had a look and unbelievably admits partial liability ie. he's prepared to contribute to the cost of the four wheels being refurbished. Until I give them a quote, they're not going to tell me how much £ contribution. At this stage it could be either a decent chunk or just a mouse mat or key-ring.

Anyone got any ball-park numbers on a four-wheel refurb and any recommendations on who does a good job?

Apologies, have seen this discussed previously but cant find the threads.

If you want to make the most of your disappearing warranty then it's worth checking all the rubber components and seals under the car - you will find rubber gaiters and hydraulic seals which were designed for Australian conditions really don't get along with the crap that is on the UK roads.

I paid £50+vat per rim for metallic powder coat.

I have had my wheels refurbished and new tyres fitted, Potenza RE050As, successor to the factory fit RE040s.

Protyre Bristol fitted the tyres and organised the refurbishment.

I'm pleased with the likely durability of the finish which looks thicker than the original and more rounded on the edges (I cleaned up some of the casting edges myself). Also the RE050s are not directional giving more freedom to rotate the wheels to even out tyre wear.

I'm disappointed though with the colour which is more grey/silver and less sparkly than original, if anything I would have preferred a more sparkly finish like other Vauxhalls. At £100 per wheel I paid top money and the RE050s have much less pronounced rim protection.

I would advise others contemplating refurbishment to ask to see exactly the finish they will get.

Granadaman are those powder coated or painted? The close up looks (imho) a bit thick and gloopy like Gloss Paint put on too thickly...... good overall finish though, even if you are not that happy with the colour.

I don't know. If they last well I will be happy enough. Original, they starting going in just a year.
