Who counts and grades these sick photos?

Just read this article - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/mid/7634021.stm
It got me thinking a rather grim thought, does someone literally have to look through each and every image and grade them? Would they be a regular investigator or are they more likely to be a psychologist? Contender for the most sickening job on the planet either way IMHO.

Police Officers from the Child Protection Sqaud have to do it.
I've been unfortunate enough to see one sample when I was prosecuting a case in the Crown Court involving child trafficking. To anyone who has even the slightest curiosity about this stuff, just don't bother, really just don't. I wish I'd never seen it. And I will never get rid of the image.
Ona slightly brighter note when I was a pupil barrister I once got paid £35 an hour to watch jazz movies which had been seized in Soho.

well there's a turn up for the books, a vicar envolved in child porn...who'd of thought it!?
As Father Ted once said, "This whole paedophile priests thing is all out of proportion. If there are 200 million priests in the world and 5% are paedophiles...then that's only 10 million."Munter said:
Carefully selected people I'd suggest. Hopefully they can switch off from the material and just compare it to the guidelines for the grades.
Didn't one of the officers in a fairly recent case end up getting done for having some stuff on his Pc that shoudln't have been there. Might have been one of the soham officers?Vesuvius 996 said:

"Driven" is one way of describing them. They have to be to do what they do, because the other way of describing them is "haunted".
One of them said something like "you join this squad thinking that you can make a difference and that you'll be able to leave work at work. That's only half right."
Have had the mis-fortune to be involved in this sort of case.
An unexpected find during a more routine matter.
As exhibiting officer I had to go through the whole batch of pictures. How colleagues did it full time I will never know. Truly disturbing.
Again, on a brighter note I would have earned 65p!

not exactly the same - but relevant
i used to work in a place that implemented a system for the Tinternet, that set the flags etc so that you could have a safe flag knowing that if you have it set - your kids could surf without too much risk.
Anyway - as part of that solution there was a 'Blacklist' and people could report websites.
The people who had to view 'those' nasty websites where the evil scumbags frequent were in fact a group of grandmothers. Seriously - it was deemed they had seen a lot in life, and had no possible personal interest in viewing such material.
I found that very interesting at the time!

During training we went and spoke to the guys who do all the hi-tech stuff with the pcs. We got told that if our public protection unit wont or cant deal with the case then we will have to do it ourselves. Not something i am looking forward to, having seen some of the types of pics we may have to view.
