Since looking for a (proper) job, its come to light that unless you're able to use Sage Line 50, then you're not going to get a job.

I've taken it into my own hands to learn to handle the beast, but having a look on their online store it seems that you can't buy it anymore - but I'm lead to believe that it has been superseded by Line 500.

Is this correct?

If not, what is correct?

Also am looking at Sage Payroll just to get a good idea of that end of the business too.

I need to go and buy an idiots guide this evening and don't want to get the wrong one - thought the P and P might be the quickest place to ask.

And can anyone guess how desperate I am to leave my current job? hehe

I presume you mean:

Since looking for a (proper) job in accountancy, its come to light that unless you're able to use Sage Line 50, then you're not going to get a job in accountancy???

Yes, sorry.

I'm just a little tired (already put the milk in the dishwasher...) and in a rush to get to the shops before they close.

Thank you smile

You're absolutely right. I've never heard of it and am completely unemployable biggrin

To me a 'Sageline 50' sounds like a 50' long motor cruiser. Am I right?

If there is a God, then this will indeed be correct.

Line 50 is still available. V15 has just been released, but they keep dicking about with the branding and renaming it. Now it's just Sage 50 Accounts.

Completely different ballpark to Line 500 which is a huuuge package aimed a massive enterprises, rather than small-medium businesses.

My little addled brain was going round in circles. At first I thought 500 was 50 as the 0's blurred hehe

I'll trot off to Smiths now.

We use line 1000, it's a manufacturing wharehousing package for larger companies, I think line 50 is lke a sweetshop package, Sage buy companies and products and rename them, we ended up wth them because they bought Multsoft who bought Radius systems

All you could ever want to know is probably here:

www.accountingweb.co.uk

I can probably dig out the results of last year's Software Satisfaction Awards if they're not on the site.

I have used Sage Line 50 and currently on Sage MMS (I don't even work in accounts...).

Company I work for upgraded from 50 to MMS and both are pretty similar. I have trained several people on most of the modules such as POP, SOP, BOM, Stock, Ledgers etc etc and they get the hang of it pretty quickly so i am sure you will be fine smile
Lady I work with cannot add columns or rows in excel but can use the sales ledger module (to some degree) quite well.

I suppose you can call me the "super user" for the company as the rest of them know squat about anything computer related.
Had one idiot the other day call me to find out why they are not connected to the network drive..

Me: "have you checked the network cable is plugged in?"
Idiot: "What does it look like?"
Me: "Looks like something you plug into a phone socket"
Idiot: "er.........."

Sooooo somehow I am now technical support??????

Anyway... Good luck with it all!!! Any questions I can try and offer some sort of help smile

You also seem to have forgotten Sage 200 which i believe is the middle of the two, much better than MMS which it replaces.

I'm just a little tetchy as I'm dead on my feet tbh.

Sitting AAT Intermediate and Technician in December (been studying about 3 weeks now) and can handle double entry book keeping well.

Also have developed a strange knack of being able to work out VAT on just about anything in my head (except for today when I managed to delete everything I touched)

I was going to until I realised that children (especially teenagers) got right on my wick and there was no way I'd be able to do the profession justice - I'd have just been another miserable stroppy teacher.

Better to find out before your stuck in front of a blackboard...was it the "work experience" bit in Rotherham that did it?
