Be thankful it's in one piece, they might have wanted to do some road test on your oil pressure problem. In any case why didn't you go to Mark if he's only down the road?

I would call the dealer and ask them why they took the car for a 13 miles test drive? What did you have done to your car and what dealer did you take it to?
I would say 2 miles is ok for most normal things.

Given the faults you booked it in for, that doesn't seem unresonable. Nothing annoys customers more than giving cars back not fixed when they have been told they are. Depending on the job in question, a road test is inevitable in order to ensure it is truly fixed. I was checking out a possible oil pressure problem today. Needed a cold start and a resonable drive to get it up to temp to see if pressure dropped. Just leaving it idling in the carpark proves nothing.

Of course, some garages im sure do go for a joyride. Which isn't on.

Roger I dont think we can compare your service to that of a main stealer... you have an active interest in the cars and also a small business to run so you obviously run a tight ship, stealers generally have a number of oiks working on cars and the monaro apart from the big engine and hp numbers is simply another car to them, allbeit something fun to take for a blag aka test drive. When mine eventually goes in for some minor warrentee bits it will not go on any test drives or the workshop managers going to hosi! period.
Know alot of guys in the trade and there are some horror stories out there.

BTW - 13miles for an oil pressure issue is most likely justified IMHO... just not in my car!

get yourself one of these, it will give you a clue about what your car gets up to when you leave it at the garage. For £29 its a bargain.

becuase its under warrenty still and they could give me a courtesy car.

13 miles is maybe not unreasonable for checking the oil pressure although they did cane it as when i left it it had 75 left ont he tank and showing 20 mpg and when i got back it was 30 miles on tank showing 17 mpg!

more pissed off that the passenger seat isnt fixed and the oil pressure still isnt right. I told them though im gonna get a second opinion as i dont want excessive oil pressure damaging seals or rings etc and then causing me problems 40,000 miles down the line when the warrenty is out as i intend on keeping the car for some time.

Instantaneous MPG and the amount off miles to be travelled till empty are directly related. If the car was idling for a little wile then the instantaneous MPG will go down and the miles to go will decrease. Try it yourself on the drive way for a few minuilts and see what I mean.

I wrote on another thread that the laws have been changed regarding you being forced to use any particular dealer for service under warranty. I'm a bit sketchy on the detail, there are probably some more knowledgeable people on here that can fill in the blanks.

Indeed, doesn't mean the car's been abused. Also, when cold the car seems to chomp a _lot_ of fuel, even when driven gently. On the first urban couple of miles that I did this morning (with the AC and rear heater on) I'm sure I wouldn't have been topping 10 or 12mpg, which dented the average a bit.
