10K for a track day car

i currenlty have a 2 1/2 year old focus st. but im im getting more and more tempted to do track days but i dont feel that the ST is really the car for the job. even thought it is a great car and fast on the track
if i was to sell the ST and set my self a 10k bugget what do you all think i could get. i must stress that i dont intend to do any more that gut the car and out a cage in it maybe lower it, but i will be depending on a 1 year warrenty from a dealer icase i kill the engine (on the public road)

DC2 Integra, good standard for 5K plus 5K mods will put it about 5sec 0-60 and nothing on this earth will go through a corner quicker!! The sound will bring a smile to your face every time and you will want for nothing more!!
was thinking something a little smaller sorry to be picky. i have a garage but it only just big enough to get the ST is so i want a smaller car to make life easier and if it small car then i still have room in the back for other toys e.g. my rotax max go kart

Unless you really really want a car with a roof, a Caterham will be one of the best trackday cars in that kind of price range.
You can have lots of fun in other cars no doubt, but a Caterham will (in the right hands) lap quicker than most cars and still be great fun to drive. Running costs are very low as well - a 500kg car puts far less stress on suspension, tyres, brakes and engine than a 1000kg+ car does. Insurance is cheap on a specialist policy (for me £300 a year for a 226bhp car!). You'll also get 30mpg+ on the road from the one above!

LOL, nothing on earth? Fanboy alert!PS. was going to suggest a caged e36 M3 but the size thing puts the dampers on that.

I've just been through this, and a mate and I have bought Iguana's 7 from up the thread ^^^^^.
As mentioned above, running costs for trackdays can be ££££ for heavy cars - I used to track an Impreza STi but the tyre/brake bills were beyond a joke. Personally I think 7s are the way to go, but you could get a nicely sorted Elise for 10k, or something like this for less.

Regarding some thing breaking, every part on a car has a breaking point, it all depends on how sensible you are, and how well its maintained. Off the top of my head I dont know a single Evo or Subaru owner who has a bad thing to say about their car. Very well built!! If in doubt, and you still want warranty you can take out extended warranty with 3rd party companies such as Warranty Direct from as little at £99-£500. Best of luck with your search...

Thing with spending £10K on a track car you know it'll do the job better if you strip it clean put buckets and harnesses in it etc, can be a bit difficult when you get home with someones old mint £10K M3 or whatever and you rip it to pieces. Think its better getting a dedicated cheaper track car,... unless you've plenty of money and don't think about things like that.
If this is a second hand car couldn't recommend a caterham (or similiar) enough. I sold my 997 911 having tracked it once. Caterham is more fun, soooo cheap and even with 120bhp in rover k series form is as quick (if not quicker)round a track as anything else like your subaru's etc. Once you've tasted lightweight sports cars you'll wonder why you considered anything else.
Lots of Roadsport A race cars will be available as from TODAY as its the last day of the season at the ford festival. Your looking at £10-£11k for a car ready to race/track. Don't be put off by buying an ex race car.... chances are its engine will of been better looked after than others.

Have to agree with all comments to date on benefits of going seven as long as its a 2nd car. Its all about the weight. I've got a dax rush with a cosworth turbo which weighs more than most westies / caterhams at 650 -700kgs. Low weight means tyres don't get the same level of abuse. My mates 911 turbo's rear tyres are too hot to touch after 20 mins, but even with toyo 888s i can stay out longer and go faster. Tyres, brakes (ie everything that gets eaten on track) far cheaper than anything else out there due to humble origins and lack of abuse due to weight. For example I upgraded to alloy 4 pots up front last year (not essential) at £300 ish with discs and pads and my pads are £20 a go. Toyo 888s 225/50s £80 a corner. Insurance is dirt cheap too...i pay £280 a year fully comp which includes all trackdays.
As far as performance is concerned nothing should overtake a sorted seven on a uk track unless its got wings! check out utube clips (unedited) further back in forum section for evidence.
In summary a seven type will cost u less to run, your sessions out on track will be longer and u should be quick!
If buying again I'd get something thats been track prep'd as it saves alot of skinned knuckes!

that for the hits. 7 type cars is something iv always fancied. beed doing alot of digging on them since i desided it was time for a change in cars. i really fancie a mnr with a R1 engine. there area few iv spoted about that do take my fancie. just got to get though xmas and then ill be cooking
