What's the story here? Have you been and gone, preparing to go, en route, forgotten the whole thing, a prisoner on the Afghan border?

Fans need an update.

eek Thought I'd too much wine again then (just for a change)

I'm setting off next June, we're wondering if we could launch from the Goodwood Festival of Speed (if any organisers are reading it would be fantastic biggrin) keeping a close eye on the current Afghan/Pakistan border frown

At the mo' I'm leaving the RAF and moving in with my folks to save up, they've even offered to lend me their car so I can sell mine to save more pennies.
The trip is self funded, unless any sponsors want to help out, any donations go to No More Landmines, and a local charity I haven't decided yet.

I'm struggling to find a Baja beetle with any MOT (just a little bit will do) checking ebay and the owners forum and HERE everyday biggrin

Must start my blog biggrin

Thanks for the post, I'm all shy now smile

Thanks guys, just looking for a piccy of a Bond Bug, they're mental! We're hoping for some Baja sponsorship and my hesitation meant I missed 4 on ebay rage hopefully some more will come along soon.

Travelling across China will be interesting, you need a chinese driving licence (lets hope they don't have a hazard perception test) and a guide everyday, so could be the most expensive part!

Shame you didn't get on the MR, my old mate took a mini with an English phonebox on the roof, he said it's been one of the hardest things he's done and he did the MR along side me last year, he was in a Fiesta biggrin

Why is your username "all words beginning with the letters r, a, c and h"?

(Sorry. Geek humour)

And also, how have you managed to be a member of PH for 29 months and 2,500 posts yet I've never seen your posts until yesterday. Is this a new name?

I think a beetle is going to be a bit cramped.

You need somewhere to store things and stuff, you know, spare blankets for the cold Gobi nights, cold beer for the hot Thailand days.

Something like, a caravan!

hehe shhhh cara-van-man might hear!

How about a Bedford Rascal camper? They're so funky! But are they easy to work on and how much ground clearance do they have?

Sounds like a great trip.

Beetles are so easy to work on.

There is no way you'll incorporate Afghanistan into your route though. I'd start planning that country out of the equation now...

good luck..

Is that like a camp version of Bedford Rascal from here?

No camper. Which is quite a trick.

The Bedford Rascal's wheels look too small for such a long trip. They would probably fall off somewhere near Trieste.

How about an old Landy? Super-cool.

What about that thing that someone posted a pic of a while back? It looked like a 4WD off-road lorry with heavy roll cage and a steel box section rear outfitted for living in. Looked awesome.
