Moving on from the Hostel thread, I dont like that sort of thing, I am in the market for a good ghost film.

I live in a big empty house in the middle of nowhere (rented!) with George our resident ghost who is mainly interested in playing with the cat and smashing mirrors, and feel the need to scare the willys out of my good lady. Anyone seen any really good ones?

No gore please, that doesn't tickle my fish, good classic themed ghost movies. Strangers meet in a haunted house, the electricty goes off, people go missing etc.......
Fall of the House of Usher was good but a little too old to be scary nowadays.

And please no-one jokingly suggest "Ghost"!! I have an uncontrolable reaction when I see Whoopi Goldberg and things get broke!

A good one is a film from the very early 80's, called Ghost Story, with Alice Krige, Fred Aststair, and a few other well known old timers - a very effective film. What Lies Beneath is pretty good to, in my opinion...

I also happen to like The Grudge a lot, despite the panning it gets.

I watched The Orphanage a few weeks ago. More of an "implied peril" type of creepy, but very, very good.

Watch the original Japanese "Ring". "Ring 2" wasn't bad either, but a little too 'riding off the back of Ring'.

The Woman in Black is superb in both book and film form. Was a Granada TV thing. I remember watching it as a kid one Christmas eve with my mum and dad. Really, really spooky.
Bit of a b&gger to find on DVD - Bit of a cult classic.

It's still as effective as it was when first released, superb acting, effects and direction. (Watched it on Sky Movies a while back)

I'd say the Others is a good one

and I kinda like the first Pulse film about ghost coming through the internet.

avoid white noise the build up is good but the money shot was terrible.

Not a film but one of those talking stories, tape or DVD. (and book, obviously) The talking version is great though.

The Shepherd by Frederick Forsythe.

Eerily brilliant.
