Could anybody recommend a half decent alarm for my Quantum Extreme please???
Also am I right in thinking that I need an alarm with microwave sensor for open top cars?
Cheers,
Dave.

I do not know of any kit car with an alarm!! There is no real market for them once they have been stolen. I would just fit an FIA Red masterswitch, possibly hidden, and no bugger will steal it. Come to think of it, i do not know of any 7 type / Sylva type / that has been stolen? The only 2 kits i do know of had Cosworth parts in (an RS200 replica was one) so we all know where those parts ended up.

I have used Clifford in the past and found them very good. They usually come out and fit it at your home/ work aswell

I've had Sterling (some relation to TOAD) Laserline and Cliffords on various 2+2's and Saloons, not had a problem with any of them. You're right that you need a microwave sensor, and the ability to turn it off inside the cabin.

Average price was about £300 installed, you can go cheap with some of the Laserline ones though, down as low as £100 fitted.

If it's the QOC Footman James deal you're on, it doesnt affect the premium, nor does it matter if it's CAT1 or not but you should let them know for replacement value

I found that the removable steering wheel is a good deterrent, but I do get some odd looks wanerding around tesco's with it in my basket. laugh

Thank you to everybody who responded to my question.
I was thinking about the scum who like to joy ride, then torch your car, rather than the professional tea leaf.
Over the years I have had three x motorcycles and one car stolen, which does tend to make you slightly paranoid!!!

Sounds like you need immobiliser more than an alarm - maybe think about a ground anchor in the garage as well as a decent aftermarket alarm? Snap off steering wheel will go a long way as well

My cousin used to have an inspired way of immobilising the car, simply take the HT leads into the house with him hehe

ive got an alarm/imobilser as well as the rover imobiliser on my gtm spider

my advice is DON'T GET ONE

it will annoy you
stop you starting your car
go off all the time for no reason, because of tiny spiders etc
go off all the time when your trying to work on the car
no one will look at you at all if(when) it goes off(and it will)

but you might get cheaper insurance for having it

I put a system in the current car (2 door 2 seater) that includes a transponder-type immobiliser (so you don't have to muck about with anything, just have a fob on the keyring, aerial loop around the ignition barrel picks it up) and an alarm with dual zone microwave sensor. So far, it's been nothing but useful - it doesn't interfere with normal operation, it doesn't go off erroneously.

Also have one in the Westfield but that's a bit funny at times as there are no door switches of course.

Agree it won't deter the professional thief, but it might help stop the chav scum.

I have a cobra immobiliser to thatchem cat2 on the Tornado; OK it's a pain as Dugt says, but I also get a discount on the insurance from Adrian Flux and maybe the little flashing red neon would deter an opportunist.
Also it allows you work on the electrics with the iginition on without the electric fuel pump running.
