Places to live within 10 mins tube of Liverpool Street...
Discussion
Au revoir everyone,
I'm looking to reduce my commute to a new job to one that is just about bearable. Therefore, I'm after locations that aren't s
te about 10 minutes tube or bus from Liverpool Street. My budget is max: £800 pcm.
Also, I only intend being there Mon-Thurs.
Anyone got any suggestions an'at?
Cheers,
Phil.

Are you doing this in addition to the pub?
Have I missed something?

what??
you're working in town again?
Yep - in addition to the pub. Me returning to the City was always in the paradigm, as it were, but business as usual with the pub too. Just making hay whilst the sun-shines (read: bolstering the coffers to help see us through a recession which hasn't yet bottomed out!)you're working in town again?
If you can put up with sharing there are flats around old Spitalfields, Lamb street and beyond where there used to be rooms going at a sane (ish) price. Last time I was there I rented a flat to myself on Lamb Street, which was a little above your budget. No idea what prices around there are like now since the redevelopment and property crash.
From there you can walk to Liverpool street, and there's good food and Tecos within easy reach.

There's no first class on t'tube (as I know you know) and I don't fancy crossing London to Marylebone. Done that before and hated it. I want to make my commute as simple as possible. The plan is, also, to have this place as a bolt-hole rather than stay there permanently, IYSWIM.

Sharing isn't really a problem as it'll not be my "home". Just somewhere where I don't have to take an hour+ getting to and from work every day. From there you can walk to Liverpool street, and there's good food and Tecos within easy reach.

I'll take a look around there. How much above my budget was the place to yourself?

I am looking at that sort of area as well, but I need something wiht parking which pushes the price up
I found some in City Quarter which I am planning on seeing next week. Not too far from Liverpool street either IIRC.
Mail me offline - if you are only there mon-thurs, I could get a 2 bed and rent it to you..?

That's how I did it - commute down to London on Monday, stay the week, back on Friday. On Wednesdays, the OH would come down, we'd have a nice evening eating out and she'd commute in reverse on Thursday mornings. It shared the pain nicely, kept the week short and I have to say that eating out regularly in London was a real highlight.I'll take a look around there. Can't remember the exact price - somewhere around the 900 mark I think, but then you have to add utilities and council tax and so on. First time I shared, I just looked in the back of Loot. Second time, I went through the estate agent on the East side of Spitalfields market. You can trade off price against distance you have to walk from Liverpool street. The further you get in to Shoreditch, the rougher it gets, but some of the new flat complexes are pretty well insulated against the street-level stuff.
Around Spitalfields there are some fantastic places to eat of an evening (though Brick Lane is a bit overrated IMHO), and if you're really bored you can gate crash the student events around the Trueman Brewery.
I just had a look on Gumtree at flatshares, and there is loads of places in EC1 for your budget. And being the price it is and the area it is, you may find the people are ok to share with too..
Not as nice as having your own place I know, but a nice room with a decent person is fine I think..

The flats on Lamb Street have underground parking.

10mins commute? You want to walk to Liverpool Street in 10mins? Or 10mins on public transport? Or 10mins door to door, via public transport?
You're a skim reader, aren't you!Islington, Hoxton, Bethnal Green, Wapping, Clerkenwell are all comfortable walking distances to L.Street. Forget buses - waste of time - you WILL be quicker walking! Few other residential places that will be even closer such as City Basin, Barbican, Brick Lane etc. Finsbury Park is quite a good shout as there are lots of residential lettings there, great transport (overland, tubes, buses, good access to airports etc)and easy to get to Liverpool Streer - don't get the tube, get the overland to Moorgate - 10mins tops. Might even be able to help you out with finding a room too.
