Just reading an old evo mag, gallardo v m5 (oct 05), I was suprised how slow the G is. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and 0-100 in 10.0 seconds. Compare to the F355 that Autocar tested in 1994, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and 0-100 in 10.6 seconds, not bad for over 100 bhp less, and significantly less capacity. Are the gears too tall on the early gallardo? Couldnt help but laugh though, scanning the Autocar article, at the size of the front discs on the f355, 300mm? surely a cooking focus would be similar size now?

So an e60 m5/m6 would pull from a G from the line and presumably the Lambo would never catch it? Bad. Although with those looks I would be fine with it smile

I bought the video from the gt board run at the Koenigsegg airfield, they run the cars from a roll at 30mph up to as fast as they can get them.
The gallardo vs m5 they are level up to about 100 then the m5 slowly pulls away, m6 is the same but pulls away from the gallardo quicker after the tonne. 997tt beats the m6 right from the start. The bmw's are really quick!

All the hypercars were about the same and were not that much faster than the supercars till they hit about 130/140 . SLR was the quickest out of CGT and 599 but there was literally inches in it, whichever car got the jump at the accelerate marker the other would never catch it, right up to 190.

If you search youtube for either m5board or m6board a lot of the videos are on there from the first time they did the event.

I used to own a 355 Spider. I loved the Gallardo but like a lot of others it is simply not practical. My 'toys' are generally used for long tours across Europe and the luggage space in the Lambo is pitiful.

Yes those videos are good, as you say its is quite alarming the performance of a car as large as the M5. Bargains they will be in the next year(although they are cheap now).

agree - as a Grand Tourer the G is limited. A decent luggage area is needed for the trans-euro jaunts.

The Gallardo is quite long in the gears, but also has a good 10mph higher top speed. That's where the BHP goes. In day-to-day life, point anything of a second 0-60 makes absolute f-all difference. If you want a Lambo, a 355 just wont cut it. Very different cars. The handling is exceptional in the G, but as already pointed out the luggage space is nothing more than a joke. We always laugh when we load the car up to go away at the weekend. What we don't laugh about is the zero visibility out the rear and the turning circle. Not the things that any super car owner should complain about, clearly, but really gets on my tits.

Umm wow telling video. Nver expected a m5 to give a g a run for its money. Gotta kinda suck to be the gallardo owner.

With the amount of kit you get inside the Gallardo, I'm suprised its not slower. Far too well equipped for a supercar. I'll keep my 355 Spider over a Gallardo anyday. Still the Best ever supercar made.

M5 board results are often questionable, but this has been discussed to death on so many forums.

I am surprised at the result evo achieved, other tests achieve results of 4 to 4.3sec mark!

Isn't 4 to 4.3sec the facelift model times?
I thought '03 to '04 G's were 4.7 and the '05 onwards had the gearing changed slightly as well as the extra 20ish bhp which brought the 0-60 time down half a second.
Besides owning a Lambo is about the supercar experience as much as performance.
Hell there are Ultimas that go to 60 faster than an Enzo but they're not normally found on the same shopping list.

Official time was 4.2sec for the 492hp version. 4sec for the 520hp model.

For example Autocar achieved 0-60 in 4.1sec.

It says at the start of the video that the M5 is tuned, vs a standard Gallardo. I know which one I would rather be driving.......it doesn't have 4 doors.

Yes but my issue would be over cost. The lambo would be around twice as expensive as the m5. Which leaves you asking where that extra money went...

If you're in the market for a Gallardo and you're worrying about servicing costs, repair costs, how much is it gonna depreciate, why is that V10 200mph M5 half the price? Wondering if you can scrape by to afford it, (which I am in no way implying that you can't) then IMHO you have no business thinking about buying one in the first place.
