Out the two I'd have the Commencal

I have had a Commencal and it was very nice for what it was designed to do.

My wife and I both have specialized bikes! But my name's Andy, not 'the world'!

Out of those 2, despite being a Spesh fan, I'd go for the Commencal. Better fork, and more importantly, looks cooler! cool

Thats what I thought, I'm trying to scrape some cash together. The only problem is I can't try the commencal to see how it feels.

Critical point is as OP wondered how are the Commencal sizes? I need a 19" for the specialized but for a commencal ???? big problem with looking to buy on line.

hehe

To the OP regarding sizing, I'm sure Steve at Real cycles will have some Combi's in, and most likely at the best pricing in town - so give him a call...

Make sure you mention my name (Neil off Pistonheads/Commencal Owners Club) and hopefully he'll start reading here and maybe do some discount for us PHer's smile

I gave him a call, but couldn't match merlin's price even when I dropper your name wink. Strange thing though is I asked to speak to Steve, the bloke who answered went to find him, then the same guy came back onto the phone?

Anyway Merlin have my money now.

Just an update for those that contributed to the thread. This turned up today.

I went with the Commencal in the end, every man and his dog has a Specialized. The spec list was also very good for the price.

Merlin cycles have been excellent, fast delivery and answered all my queries. The bike came already setup, all gears indexing etc, although I don't know if that's down to Merlin.

The bike itself is great, fairly lightweight and nice riding position. I got a size XL that fits perfectly (I'm 6ft3).
The only problems so far is I need some new pedals, the tyres that come are inadequate for winter, and the home-brand XC bar look a little weak.
