A friend of mine has a Garmin Nuvi 250, and when it's plugged in to charge, in the car, it doesn't let you use the functions of it??? It just says 'Charging'.

Any ideas fellow PH'ers?

try turning it on?

if it's off while charging - it will have dark text on the screen saying "battery charging", if you slide the power key on the top, it should boot up and charge while running.

I agree with the above. Press the on button after you've plugged in the charger. I don't use my on button but I think you have to keep it pushed in for a couple of seconds to turn it on.

Mine works while charging in the car, but does not when charging via USB.

Unless you use the power lead which came with it then the unit will not power up in your car. The connection on a Tomtom looks identical to that on the Garmin but there must be a few less wires in there because if I try to use my Nuvi with the Tomtom power lead then all it does is show a computer connection icon on the screen and nothing else. The Garmin lead powers a Tomtom fine though.

If you plug it in (using the OE cable) before starting the car, as soon as the accessory power comes on the unit will automatically switch on for use anyway.
