If Rolex's are your thing, you can get mahoosive discounts on them from Authorised Dealers in Mexico due to exchange rates and tax free status.

Mexico City - more kidnappings than Medellin, Bogota and Baghdad.

Contract killings from $50 a pop.

Lovely place.

I am going there next week.

Mexico is fantastic. If you get the chance go to Coco Bongo in Cancun one evening, well worth a visit.

It started as we arrived going through customs....2 Clint Eastwood lookalikes on customs looked at my and my teams passports, looked at each other and then turned to each other, nodded and said to each other in unison "ahh anglaisee"......

For some reason one of my team as we walked away said "aahhh anglaisee, beware the banditos, they take the anglaisee into ze 'ills and bu** fu** zem"

So there we were staying in Monterey (sp?) auditing a manufacturer in the Industrial area about 75 north west along the one motorway with 3 junctions (start, middle and end).

Manufacturer gave us a driver called Manuel, about 12 years old didn't speak a word of English and non of us spoke spanish!!

Anyway, on the last day of auditing the manufacturer we all agreed that we could save a day if we did the debrief there and then as opposed to coming back the next day.

So we left the industrial zone at about 22:00 local time and made our way back to the motorway with the faithful Manuel at the wheel......pitch black, not a sole to be seen...we all drifted off to sleep!!

Suddenly screaching of brakes, bright lights, shouting and we woke up being ordered out of the car at gun point by the three amigos........once we got out, more shouts at Manuel who lit up the tarmac as he left, doors open.....the only thing I could think of was "ahhh anglaisee...beware ze banditos co ze take you into zee ills and bu** fu** you"

We were lined up at the roadside, more lights, more shouting, more guns.....we had hands on heads!! we were searched..... luckily our host (who was also a Brit from the UK) had about US$500...he offerrred it to them...they jumped in their jeeps and left..............left us in the middle of nowhere, without any transport.....

we weren't sure what to do, so just sat there....about half an hour later a couple of big SUVs were racing the other way and then a while later they came back our way....we hid (as best we could in the middle of a desert) to hear screeching tyres...followed by our names being called bu Manuel.....who'd gone to get help!!

needless to say he got an enormous tip from us all....we left Mexico on the next available flight but were refused entry into the US..but that's a whole different story

sorry but you did ask

Not sure I'll be hanging around on the motorway at night. But thanks for the advice. It can't be worse than Caracas.

Cancun is where I'm going, for Christmas.
Quite why the fk anyone travelling halfway around the world to South America would chose Can-fking-cun is beyond me.

You might as well go to Tenerife!

There are far better places to visit in Mexico.
