I suppose the only defence can be that the first lap is a bit of a free for all. A lot of cars going into a confined space is bound to cause problems. It's the same as Spa with several cars taking to the run off at La Source on the first lap. It would take a lot of steward interaction to get it all sorted out, so I think they turn a blind eye. I'm not saying it's right, just that its the way things seem to be.

I think it would be difficult to do anything so long after the event but it perfectly highlights the main issue which is the inconsistent interpretation of the rules.
Take Massa's time penalty for unsafe relase and his fine at a previous GP for the same offence. (I don't want this to be an issue about Massa/Ferrari/Mclaren, god knows there's enough of that on here at the mo)
As with all sports, the most frustrating aspect of referees (race stewards etc) applying the sports law is the inconsistency.

I agree with what most are saying but what pisses people off is when Alonso went on his high horse saying Hamilton was in the wrong then goes onto to do the same thing??
No doubt he will get asked about it this week and somehow his opinion will differ. I also chuckled as Webber put his car into the wall in qualifying after critisising Hamiltons driving.

Hamilton got a drive through penalty when he had all 4 wheels over the fast chicane on lap 1 of the French Grand Prix when he was passing Vettel.i don't know why its so difficult to write a set of rules down and apply them..

A set of rules for each crime, make it transparent. Get a majority vote.
its easy. If i can do it at work - i don't see why some of the biggest brains outside Nasa can't do it.

although i believe what Lewis got penalised for SPA was incorrect - i can think of nothing worse than as a result, every driver and team are being scrutinised for this - because you can be dam sure that this will affect the amount of racing in F1
i mean really, do we want these poor sods to have to second guess every move at 100, 200 mph in case they get a penalty?

I couldn't agree more. There's always going to be grey areas though, so there will still need to be someone to make a decision. It definitely could be tightened up though.Then it wouldn't matter which officials were there.

Of course Alonso also did a dirty dive round the outside of the run off area at SPA first corner, (as did Raikonen) but Alonso actually passed several cars doing so, KR only got a run on Massa.
So if he shoots his big fat gob off after Spa, when he himself did the same but worse (did not yiled) why should it change him 2 races later.....?
We ALL know if LH had done similar from 15th at Monza he would have been up got a drive through, a drive over and a spanking from Max in Prince Harry's fancy dress costume.
BUt because Alonso is spanish and his fans are a bunch of racists not unlike someone else we all know, they wont do anythign to him!
OH and FIA punishing his twottoish behaviour in 07 was merely a way of hitting Mclaren!

How about because only Ferrari and MacLaren (Mercedes) are the only two teams left that race in national colours?Back in the early days of international motor racing teams were run on national lines and each country selected a national colour; (British Racing) Green for the UK, Red for Italy, White for Germany and blue for France.
These were officially dropped from F1 in the 70's but Ferrari continue to use red and when MacLaren teamed up with Mercedes they switched to silver (from Mercedes F1 past when polished aluminimum body panels were used as white paint put them over-weight).
