Looks lovely! I'm sure Plasticman will do it for you (us?) wink. I might just send him the link to make sure he doesn't miss it smile.

Good idea Nicky. Did you get the brakes sorted out by the way?

Yes, thank you! I have borrowed some calipers for the moment and will get my originals refurbed by an AP dealer. (Just in time to set about the next set of jobs!)

Sorry for the hi-jack/detour, but has anyone with the later style lights tried wiring up the extra sidelight in the main beam lamp? My sidelights were both cracked and falling out, so I bought some new ones and some LEDs to replace the dim yellow oem bulbs. I think it looks pretty cool in a chavvy sort of way.

It's hard to photograph, but here goes:

One side down, one to go.

Wonder if the 'racers' would find this as a bit of an aero tweak, I would imagine so yes.

I especially like the idea of doing it with late Gti ones, so by get xenons (with self-levelling gubbins) and integrated indicator - which leaves the current indicator hole free for brake cooling.

They look cool how hard was it to take the lamps out to drill the holes?

Cheers, no need to drill any holes. The bulbs were already fitted, just not connected. I just replaced them with led versions and wired them up to the sidelights.

This coupled with the smoked/tinted covers could be quite spectacular. Even without the covers, I'm really quite tempted.

I had been looking at my lenses thinking they needed replacing as they are chipped and discoloured. My initial thoughts were along the lines of "wonder if Porsche 997 units could be made to fit" but had mostly dismissed it as they would probably be too expensive.

This looks like a great substitute and at a sensible cost.

Right then, who can find them at the best deal, i too was thinking GTi ones so i could vent the discs.

Do OEM xenons have separate balasts like aftermarket ones, or would you have to pick up a set of GTi headlights, and THEN fit an aftermarket HID bulb kit to them?

I had zenons on my last Audi. Look cool but the light was no better than good halogen IMHO.

Extra weight and very little improvement IMO.
