moving on the alfa 166 3.0 v6 super to save a little in fuel costs...

have picked up a 97'R-plate E36 318i Touring - 119k miles, loads of service history, every MOT, a stack of bills at least 2" thick, new tires all-round, 10 months MOT, electric sunroof, cat 1 alarm, CD-player, Eletric mirrors, roof rails, alloys etc etc etc

£950.00


I don't that's too bad tbh... it's my first Beemer.. what is the general consensus? (okay, I know I should have bought a 328i Sport Touring, but I came close before buying the 166 and it turned out to be write-off when HPI'd).

I really like the 318i touring, doesn't date in touring guise and it is nice and light so really chuckable.

To be fair it was up at £1750, too much probably, I think £1500 would have been a reasonable price, but happy I got what I think is a bargain instead!

I think a lot of people, esp. those aren't used to these cars, would be put off by the mileage, 180k. I looked at a few 3 and 5's and condition and service history was all I was concerned about, there is some tatty st out there, all usually having just 98-120k.

I think if I was looking again and wanted a lot more guaranteed reliability for £1k, I'd be looking at 318's, I saw quite a few of those and they just seemed more honest than most 6 pots.

My 318i SE Touring has just sold privately. Got £1850 for it, which I was disappointed with for 99 'T' with just 85k on the clock and a fully stamped book. Trouble is it had to go to make way for the new 330Ci, so I probably accepted less than I may have done under different circumstances. Admittedly though Parkers price was less than that!
