I have noticed a 100mm dia circular thingymabob that is underneath the leather but you can feel it and even see it if you look very closely.

Is this normal and does anyone else know what it is?

This pic from google images describes its location a bit better (not my car):

I have the older small circular vents on the top of the dash, but this is on the underside of the recess shown above.

I have the small vents too, but also have 2 large circular vents where shown. The vents are the same style as the ones by your knees in the footwell.

My 98 cerb has two 100mm vents there, I don't know if the cerb interior changed as the years went on, if it did then they obviously just used the same dash but covered the holes, if it didn't then parts of your car have had a retrim.

I've actually been considering a retrim of that panel - I need the top to be a darker shade. Currently I have an all cream interior and the reflection in the windscreen can cause a problem at certain times of day.

Yep.

The earlier ones had the big air vents under the dash.

Later models had it on the top.

Yours simply has the old-model holes covered.
