Hot Start Problem.
Discussion
I know what you're all thinking. 'Not that old chestnut again'. I've looked at the history on this subject of which there is a lot. I wondered whether there have been any current breakthroughs on this as my car now seems to be suffering the symptoms associated with this phenomenon, having never suffered from this before during the 2 years of my ownership.
Modwise Kits - do they work? How easy is it to change the starter motor if it needs it? Imobiliser problems etc.
I've checked the earth connection from engine to chassis and starter motor terminals.
It won't crank over when hot(not even a click)leave it a few minutes and away it goes.
Any advice on this subject would be welcome. Many thanks CRAIG

Does it fit earlier cars? IIRC they don't have the same facility (ie LR auto box loom with starter relay defeat). I seem to recall DB advised just fitting a relay near the starter in that case?
When you refer to earlier cars do you mean earlier 500s or pre cats? Have you got one on your Chim?spend said:

I think Dave is right but ask DB
It sorted my problem out Craig so go for what ever DB suggests it saves a World of Embarrassment of which we could all do without given the reputation most of the general public think due to the likes of Clarkson and co

I'm sure the Modwise kit does what it says on the tin but owners shouldn't forget that there are two common hot start issues. The second being overheating of the starter solenoid causing the solenoid shaft to stick when very hot. If this is your problem then Modwise won't help. The solution for this is to strip down the starter solenoid, clean and replace the high temp grease and fit a heat shield to protect the solenoid from the exhaust.
Another option albeit more expensive is to fit a heavy duty starter motor. TVR car parts do one and it solved my problems, I think they get them from South Africa or somewhere where lots of heat is the norm. When I say more expensive it's dearer than a modwise kit but if you need a new starter I think it was about the same as a standard one.

Hi Clive. I'll give the modwise kit a go. The way I see it, it can only improve things and it's cheap.
