2007 Subaru Leagcy Spec B. Talk to me...
Discussion
Wotcha.
I'm close to spending my cash (£16,000 - 11k on the clock) on a latest version Spec B estate; the auto seems miles better than the old version and it seems a more practical buy (bigger boot, 4x4, slightly cheaper servicing/insurance) than a similarly-priced BMW 330i Touring.
I've got a couple of specific Qs:
Is the Spec B a good idea? Or should I can it and go back to the Beemer?

I've got a couple of specific Qs:
- Does anyone know if the >2007 Spec B runs on 97+ RON fuel?
- Can I really get 28mpg on the combined cycle? I don't actually drive that much and so I'm happy to run the car whatever the price of fuel for the sake of having the car I want, but the missus gets very shirty when spends more than £60 a week chauffering the nipper about (mind you, she's used to a 1.2 Clio s4ite box).

I think they're blinding cars for the cash.
Not sure on the 97 Ron.
Am pretty sure that 28 would be unlikely, perhaps closer to 23-25, depending on the type of miles you were driving. (Does anything, esp a Sub, reach it's "official" figures, anyway?)
If you're asking the question, you know you want to!

I was on a run just the other day with a guy that had an 06 estate with the manual box. It is a great looking car and really does go like hell considering its Subaru's luxury option. It spent a day running around the ranges in brecon with a number of other very powerful Impreza's and it really did impress.
Personally I think you could get 28mpg out of it, but it would mean very careful driving and paying attention to the revs to stay off boost. I have done it and got a good 28-30mpg, but it was the most tedious thing I have ever done and takes some real concentration, I won’t be bothering again, the car is for enjoying after all. You will be able to tell the wife it’s possible though and prove it, then when she complains about putting too much money in it you can blame her foot!!
They are a rare site too, so go for it I say

I've got the standard 2 litre estate and the trip computer suggests I've averaged 30mpg over the last year. Others on here have posted fairly low MPGs for the Spec B but I think if you were careful you could eek it out to mid to high twenties.
Its suprising (to me anyway) that the Spec B auto delivers better economy than the manual but I'm guessing the set-up is shifting early?
Either way, its a great car and I'd probably only change it for a diesel.

I've just sold an 06 Spec B manual saloon. A great car IMHO. The H6 is a peach of an engine. On a run, I used to get 28-29 if driven reasonably sensibly. It averaged around 24-26 mpg but that's without any urban driving.
It'll be a much better car than a BMW of the same value, more reliable too. Some real bargains out there. Pity you want an estate, the saloons are as cheap as chips. I sold mine to trader and it's on here at £9995 but I notice it's on ebay starting at £6995 with no reserve. For an 06 with 29k on it, what a bargain!
