Britcar Donington round cancelled
Discussion
From the Britcar site:
Due to the proposed rebuilding of the circuit at Donington, no time has been set asside by the local Council for our event in November, we have not heard from Donington Circuit, having asked
non stop for the last 6 weeks. This race will not be replaced.
All those who still have a race to finish their season need to book early for Brands Hatch.
A timetable and price will be posted in the next few days.

Wonder what JT is going to do about the Britcar 2008 Championship regulations? If Donnington is not replaced, then there are only 9 rounds and not 10?
So the Championship rules would have to change mid season?
Why does he not put on another race as a substitute?
Does that mean he will have to change the rules regarding only one Brands Hatch Indy Round Counting?
Makes a mockery of the Championship when rounds are cancelled and not replaced and teams like us have not played their Joker as we had a master plan?
Why has the race changed from 3hrs to 2hrs and then to 90 minutes? Will it end up a 20 minute sprint race????
James you need a good

And any comments from the Hawthorn Old Guffers will result in a post about 'you cant win anything yourself without enlisting a pro driver!

And you can still book tickets for the event on the Donnington Park Website???

Don`t be so silly Steve.
As I`ve been saying all along James has actually been very shrewd in the way he wrote the regulations.
There were some people out there who seemed to think both the Brands rounds were championship rounds and you scored your best result but they were wrong. "Only one of these rounds will count towards the championship." All right so there`s a bit of confusion over the numbers at the start of the paragraph but that`s clearly a typo
In writing the regulations thus James shrewdly provided the safety net of a "spare" round in the event of one of the meetings being cancelled.
As I understand it we will be able to play our Joker at the Brands Hatch round and the points will count in exactly the way they would have done had we been able to play it at Donnington.
Now get back to your Pukka pie & mushy peas.

The Britcar regulations said:
The Britcar Championship 2008 will be competed over 9 rounds including 10 races. The final championship positions will be determined by an accumulation of the entrants 7 best scores with the worst scores from the 8 rounds to be dropped over the course of the 2008 season. There are two rounds at Brands Hatch on the Indy Circuit, where only one of these rounds will count towards the Championship.
Only one of the Brands Hatch Indy rounds counted towards the championship. Given we were all awarded points after our visit there in June that was the scoring round. Now Donnington has been dropped the November meeting at Brands Hatch Indy can be used as a scoring round to make up the loss. Don't worry mate
We may not use Jay for Brands as there will only be one pit stop and it's going to be wet and bloody cold so Jan is the man you have to beat

A race with the possibility of ice or snow is just up his street

There again I could be lying

Henry's right by the way, you can play your
at Brands, collect your points and set them against the earlier INDY Brands round instead,"There are two rounds at Brands Hatch on the Indy Circuit, where only one of these rounds will count towards the Championship"
However, you chaps did rather well last time on the Indy circuit and managed 21 points as although we won the race on the track, we had to hand the victory to you as we buggered up our pit stop timings

Unfortunately, we didn't get away with it as others have done

So I'm assuming that in order to make it worthwhile you will need to win in November, and get fastest lap in qually and the race to go 1 point better then your previous INDY score, i.e 22. With your
you would take a total of 42 points but would have to drop your 21 point earlier INDY score, thus giving you a net gain of 21 against our 20 point margin if all went perfectly to plan that is, so you still have a good shot and could win the championship by 1 point
We could come in second to you chaps and by taking only 19 points with no extras set that against our lowest scoring round of 18 and thus equal you on points, now that would be interesting, we could end up as joint champions

Anyway, it's there for the taking chaps, and may the best team win.
Yeah right, 22 points, against us,

With or without the 997 engine, that will be the day !!!

Thinking about it, it's a fairly safe bet that if we didn't do the last round and stayed at home on what is likely to be a horrible winters night, we could still win as you chaps would need 20 points to equal and 21 net and clear to win.
You know, we might just have a nice dinner party and chat away into the small hours in front of a roaring log fire and let fate play the hand

No, as donnington has been dropped it is my understanding that brands will be treated as a separate round, independent of our first visit. In that way our challenge will remain unchanged and donnington's demise will not spoil what proves to be a compelling and worthy end to the 2008 Britcar season.
Henry
Edited to add: And that way the eventual winners can hold their heads high as can the championship as a whole.

if you take the regulations as a whole, the regs state that there will be 10 races over 9 rounds.... Therefore JT will need to add another round. If not, he had breeched the Championship Regs and therefore you cant have a Championship?!?
You old guffers could get some night vision goggles, get to the gym and get some tutition, then come and race on your own!
Failing that, you could invite Henry and I to your dinner party and we could all get pissed??
Anyway off for another morning at the Gym then to see 'Lewis' for some night coaching!

To be honest, I really don't know how things stand now that Donington has been cancelled as I am not sure what flexibility JT has within the 2008 regs but I'm sure JT will have a solution. You old guffers could get some night vision goggles, get to the gym and get some tuition, then come and race on your own!

I haven't read through the regs in great detail but rounds do get cancelled in many series for one reason or another and as far as I can see this doesn't necessarily invalidate the championships involved. I am assuming that there are provisions for situations like this but only JT will be able to enlighten us.
The way I see it, and I'm the first to admit that I could be wrong, is that the championship is decided on the best scores from 7 selected rounds and that currently, the only condition is that one can only count one of the Brands Indy rounds within the 7 you chose to put forward for the final adding up process. It goes without saying that any team will want to count their 7 best scoring rounds, but the condition regarding counting only one of the Indy rounds should remain as it is not connected in any way to the eventual number of rounds or races we do.
If the regs stated that ALL Indy rounds can be counted towards the championship in the event that one of the planned rounds has to be cancelled then that would be fine, but it doesn't allow for this and by virtue of that fact alone, one can assume that the Indy conditions are separate and disconnected from the situation whereby any given round is dropped irrespective of the reasons for this happening.
The key to a solution here seems to lie in the flexibility of the opening statement in the regs that confirms how the championship will be run together with the title heading, in particular the word "Provisional".
Provisional Championship Rounds:
1.7.1 The Britcar Championship 2008 will be competed over 9 rounds including 10 races.
The final championship positions will be determined by anaccumulation of the entrants 7 best scores with the worst scores from the 8 rounds to be dropped over the course of the 2008 season.
There are two rounds at Brands Hatch on the Indy Circuit, where only one of these rounds will count towards the Championship.
It is correct that there were 9 planned rounds which catered for 10 races. It is clear that only the 7 BEST SCORES count toward the championship. The slightly ambiguous statement centers around the next bit, i.e "The worst scores from the "8 rounds" to be dropped" This may have been a Typo error and should have read as "9 rounds", on the other hand, it lends it'self to the current position by design or otherwise. The final statement deals with the Indy circuit conditions.
Now, we are happy to work with the regulations as they seem to be at present. We are happy to accept any variation JT sees fit to introduce in order to resolve any arguements that may arise provided they are justified and lawful for as Henry said in his last post, championships should be won or lost fairly and on the track, not by dint of regs and rules that may or may not, give an advantage where none was intended.
If you guy's feel that you have been compromised by the dropping of the Donington round possibly due to the "Tactics" you may have intended to impliment, such as a third driver to increase your chances of winning additional points,
then you must take this up with JT and outline why you think that this is the case. For our part we want to see everyone happy with the rulings that are handed down for we are gentlemen racers first, and pot chasers, second.
We relise the importance attached to winning this championship, hell Jan and I have been trying for nearly 15 years to achive a result like this, but it's not the most important factor in our respective lives, if it happens, great, if we don't, then that's just one of those boxes we won't be ticking. We have had a lot of fun and enjoyment in doing our best to achive our aims and no one can say that Britcar class 2 was a walk in the park so however wins, we will be delighted to have been part of a exciting and fasinating contest competing against fair and likeminded teams and drivers.
Gentlemen, start your engines

Spoke to JT this morning, he has confirmed that we will be able to play our joker at Brands AND that we can score points and retain our previous 21 points from the earlier round!!
Our Engine has not yet started, it is being rebuild to 600 bhp!
Brands suits our car as you know! 49.7 second to beat!!!!
