Anyone know the markets well? Existing investment advice...
Discussion
Hi all,
I have a question for you city types who may know a lot more than me about the current situation.
In December 2007, i helped my mum to choose some investment plans to wisely put the money she got when my gran passed away into. We used an independant financial advisor, who recommended certain investments based on a risk profile (mum's profile is quite risk averse so it's mostly in guilts/ bonds etc, but some is stock market linked).
The IFA recommended we put the money into an investment company called "Fidelity Funds Network" and showed us forcasts for good/ poor times etc, the overall plan was to invest for 2 years and then review.
The IFA has now gone south it seems, as i can't raise contact with anyone. My question is - is this investment company OK? I know nothing is safe in the current market, but how do i find out how safe it is? Is now the time to rip the money out and bung it under the matress? The last report was showing up a £2k loss since the investment, which, considering the times is not terrible.
If it matters, the total investment was £50k - which is pretty much every penny to her name (bar a few grand "on tap" for a rainy day).
Cheers
Eltax

Anyone got any background on this company and have any comments on how safe the money is? I know i'm closing the stable door and all that, but i've got to try to find some answers to see if it's OK!!
I've had money in Fidelity's European Fund over 10 years now, it was ran by the legendary Anthony Bolton and I stuck with it when he moved on; it's performed well and consistently in the Top 10% of its market segment.
Bolton also managed the Special Situations fund (which split into Uk and Global) a couple of years. Again, this performed very well.
Fidelity are a well regarded firm and consistently perform above market average.
If your mum's money is in there, it's safe and working hard.

Thanks! That helps to worry me a little less. I'll try and get on to them and see if i can get the status. Can you tell me, as a customer, do they have the ability to view/ manage your affairs online, that could be the easiest way for me to get access at the moment!!Bolton also managed the Special Situations fund (which split into Uk and Global) a couple of years. https://www.accountmanagement.fidelity.co.uk/login...
Without knowing what kind of investments your mum has with them, this is the only URL I cna think of; my on-line pension access (also with Fidelity) is a completely different one.
HTH.
