Last week, I mentioned that we'll be testing the new Delrin rear, lower outer bushings that we made, this past week-end at the track
What we did was to install our new Delrin bushings on the lower right side, and by measuring and sizing the inner spacer, we made sure that the left side had no play using the original molded bushings.
After about 100 miles of hard track use, we put the car on stands and tested the lower units for play. The Delrin side was still tight, and the molded side was slightly loose.
I had mentioned in the track day post about how that the front edge of the rear wheels were so close to the body (about 5/8") that pickup rubber from the track was scraping the body, and a possible help to this problem would be to adjust the spacers on the upper section of the upright so that the wheel would move back a bit.
We attempted this with the bushings in place as mentioned above, and this could be done with the molded bushings, but could not be done with the Delrin
because the lower end would not flex enough.
At this point, we installed new Delrin bushings in the left outer control arm, and will recheck them after the next track meet next month.
All the inner factory bushings seem O.K..

Do you have any plans on making up more bushings and selling them.

I installed a set of Jack's bushings Saturday before my first dray track day. They fit perfectly. My stockers had about 2mm of play after 8000 miles and were very distorted in shape. The car was very scary at speed. Now it's stable at speed. The originals must have worn quickly because I don't remember the car being this stable before.

Hi,

I am about to install my suspension in a few days and might as well go with the Delrin bushings - are you able to supply these - and how much are they for the set?

Thanks

I replaced the std bushes and 600miles later they were aparently gone again and needed replacing..... I wore the first set in 800miles whilst running in.

So it certainly worth thinking about when your building the car (although they are hardly difficult to replace or expensive).

I posted this in the past but here goes again. The factory now supply harder rear bushes on the lower wishbones. I fitted mine about 3,000 miles ago and still no movement.

Andy

Yes and they fit fine once the enamel coating rubs away!

If you have play in the bushings can you feel it just by pulling on the suspension member with the car on the ground, or do you have to get the car up on axle stands to unload the suspension?

You will need to raise the car then lift the wheel from the bottom. There should be no movement.

These had 1-2mm play before I removed any enamel!....... seems they have sorted the problem, in which case they should now be standard.

Maybe not totally related, but i had some bushes made of a grey type plastic - Delrin i belive on my range rover - essentially they have no movement in them whatsoever - solid. So something has to give, and in my case initially it kept working the bolts loose and then subsequently worn and ovalised the mountings.

Now, ok i could of kept tightening them, but one drive down the road and they would be loose again - clearly a range rover has lots more travel than an 'Ult but, you may get the same problem - just take much longer to become apparent. Make sure the bolts are tight and just keep an eye on them for any signs of wear of the bolts or mountings.

The Delrin we use is black, so you might not of had Delrin
