Story in Times Online

I was working at BW last year and some of this. Frank was ultimately in charge of the project I was involved with. A genuine straight down the line guy and I'm not the least bit suprised he stepped in like he did. Thoughts are with his wife and two children.

Edited to add: I know this has been mentioned on here in another thread. I did search before but have only just come across it. Felt the man warranted a decent mention without being tainted by a lot of the bile that's directed at city people right now.

thats a disgrace.

It would have been nice if the paper had left out the Searmint Rhino bit, the implication being he may have been in there. Im sure thats not what his family needs associated with this story.

Really sad story. All too common these days.

I guess they are trying to pinpoint where it was, so any witnesses who might see the article can come forward.

Don't see why they wouldn't mention it. It's one of the few establishments in that part of the city likely to be open at 3am, it's a fair distance from the main clubbing areas.

The area where it happened is near one of the large taxi ranks and known as a bit of a hang out for drunks and druggies by day, but by that time in the morning I'd guess most of them have buggered off to wherever they kip to save themselves a kicking from the hoardes of lagered up chavs looking for taxis.

Very sad, particularly if as it was reported the guy was trying to intervene to stop someone getting a shoeing. Have to be honest and say I doubt I'd do the same if there was a large group of people involved. There's a police station not 200 yards away.
Whether that makes me less brave, less foolhardy or both I dunno.

Pretty big news here, not the sort of thing that happens every weekend in Norwich unlike some larger cities.

Condolences to the man's family.

It's about time these people were severely punished.

Unrelated, but 2 more disgusting attacks, the NZ one particularly sad.

That's just staggering, the poor poor family, and what a loss of a hugely successful guy. Reminds me of teh lawyer that was stabbed in London some years ago - what a waste.

If it's such a well known area for trouble why weren't the police policing it!

I had a night out in Norwich once and ended up wandering around in the early hours trying to get a cab - never felt so scared in a city centre - and I've lived in London all my life. Norwich is not a good place to be at 3am in my experience.

Sister-in-law lives near Norwich and been a few times. I have to say that there are some nice places, but in general its just like every other provincial town / city - i.e. heading very quickly into a no-go-area.

The packs of pissed-up men that roam the streets are a disaster waiting to happen. I am sure its like this in other parts of the world, but it does seem to be a bigger issue here.

What is happening to our society?

RIP for chap - I would have done the same, but probably would think again now.....

That happened more or less outside a school apparently. Girlfriend of mine lives nearby and it's shocked everyone.

Just saw this sad story on the news, bloke saw a homeless man being set on and intervened. Vile scumbags beat him and he is now dead.

I hope they are left to rot in jail, poor bloke left a family and regardless of his social standing kids need a father.

I hope justice is served in this case but sadly I fear the CPS will be cowardly and not push for maximum sentences.

One of the three arrested released on bail charged with assault of the deceased's cousin.
Other 2 still being questioned after courts granted an extension.

Meanwhile decent people (who are still the vast majority let's not forget) express their disgust:
