I did mail him back to ask for it in English but his English is worse than my French and it makes even less sense biggrin

(pertinent info is that none of my auctions listed cheque as acceptable payment as I'm in the process of sorting a bank account so have nowhere to pay it in yet. So I specified Paypal - and that's a barrel of laughs as per recent PP thread - or postal order)

Cheers.

If you have the basic details for the bank account he could do an electronic transfer. Do you have someone you trust who could accept the payment for you?
He is only offering to pay by cheque or by debit card.

hello,

Thank you for the payment details but instead of a cheque I would like to visit with you and make sweet love in exchange for your ebay wares. I will give you a carte blanch to do what you will with me with your manly solution.

Pierre.

god that french is bad.......

I get the impression that they had hoped to pay by cheque, is not sure if they are able to pay by bank card, and is not sure if they will be able to find a solution to the problem.

No bank account? How does paypal work for you then?

Anyway I think he's basically saying something about a cheque and he'd like to pay by card.

I suggest considering you didn't list with a cheque option you just send back to him that you will only accept paypal and that he sorts an account out.

It's for this reason I don't list things internationally, I speak basic french but not great, same with other languages, I'd sooner not have the hassle, plus paypal take an even bigger chunk for cross border transactions and if they decide not to pay there is nothing you can do to them. That said I get a lot of enquiries from abroad for auctions I run, and provided we can converse ok and they are aware of postage and paypal fees and willing to make good the difference I will let them bid. Hence I've just sold a set of mirrors to a guy in Italy.

The account is in the process of being set up - I am happy to receive a paypal payment and then send it out and wait till the account's ready before withdrawing from PP. A cheque wouldn't have anywhere to be paid into for a week or so, plus the clearing time etc. I'll have left my mum's by then (where the stuff I'm selling is).

I tend to only do UK sales, but the nature of the stuff I've been offloading (movie collectibles) meant I would be severely limiting myself if I didn't allow international sales.

Cheers Bec and Arese. That makes sense. I guess I could get him to send it to my mum instead. It's only 42 quid or so.

bonjour,...Hello
sur l option de paiment , ...on the payment options
il y avait chèque de banque ..it has banker's cheque (This could be a question as you'd say the same thing. Pistonheads...Punctyerlayshun matters!)
et je contai payer comme ca ... and I (told ?) to bay with that (I take it he'd prefer to pay by cheque)
et je ne sai pas si je pourrai payer a la carte bancaire ... And I don't know if I can pay by bank card
c peut probable il faudrai trouver une solution ... It will be neccesary to find a solution
That's rough. Been a few years since I spoke much French, and most has been forgotten now I'm learning Italian.

Aaah he's misunderstood "Banker's Draft". The Postal Order option says "Bankers Draft or Postal Order".

Explains why no replies ever come from my babelfish emails then.

Must try Nigerian next time.
