I am using NGK BCPR5ES. Any other suggestions as to the best plugs? Is there a performance upgrade to this plug?

How about iridium tipped plugs as a performance upgrade.

Unless you are experiencing problems with the NGK's Paul then I would stick with them
On a HO modified motor the best type of plug available may make a minuscule difference but I would say that the type and condition of the ignition system is far more important.

I have been using Denso Iridium plugs for years. The very small tip helps keep the plugs clean even after hours of idleing

The people at sparkplugs.co.uk were trying to convince me about them, but when pressed admitted that on low use engines such as ours, the benefits are not quite as clear cut.

Sure on modern cars where it takes you three hours just to find the engine under all the plastic covers @100 per hour, i can see the benefits but I prefer to replace std plugs more often on my non daily driver.

With cheap plugs you can afford to sling a new set in every year along with the oil change, plus its cheap to experiment with temperature ranges.

35 thou is the norm Paul but a larger gap can be used if you have a beefed up ignition system.
