I think "homages" are just as bad as fakes

your welcome to your opinion,

I disagree - nothing on the watch apart from case design says Panerai - its blatently NOT a panerai.

TBH there is no way I would pay their extortionate prices for what is basically a SOPROD ETA and I have the money to do so if I wanted. I'll stick with my in-house Girard Perregaux and my ETA based ORIS and now something totally unique - no other in the world like it. (as far as I know)

a maker in the US found thru WUS forum - you specify the
case, style, pvd/stainless/brushed/polished,
you chooose your face style and colour - flat dial or sandwich dial, california and a few others
choose hands,
choose night lume colour
choose daylight colour
you can even get hand painted faces eg Salvador Dali's melting clock picture
you specify the movement from asian, undecorated ETA, SOPROD ETA (yes the same one in the real panerai)right up to a pvd SOPROD movement. Its regulated to COSC standards and even comes with a decent strap and buckle.

he does a beautiful polished PVD that looks like ceramic - truly stunning and also phantom faces - dial numbers and hands painted black but full night lume - very weird.
don't think I can post a link but if you are interested then I can email you.

Sounds interesting. Roughly how much did it cost, if you don't mind sharing?

from around $500 for stainless with asian movement to around $1700 with the SOPROD PVD movement and ceramic PVD finish.

don't know what he charges for a hand painted face - that will top the $1700 even more.

That is a very beautiful watch. Wear it well.

I'll bet it cost more to make than the real thing ;-)

Cyberface taught me well.

I think I know those custom dials, Ydrasil?

but not to type

I'm not trying to start a debate about homage watches but how do these guys get around copyright laws. I know you can't copyright a style of watch but these homages are exact copies of Panerai watches. They have the same case, font, hands movements etc all that's missing is the logo.

I know the OPs is pimped up a bit and not the same as any genuine Panerai but this maker and people like Marina Militare are simply making exact copy Panerai watches without the logo. I thought homages were supposed to be reproductions of a past style of watch these are exact copies of current production watches.

Would you be able to make and sell exact copies of a new 911 and just not put a Porsche logo on it or a current production Aston which was exactly the same as a real one but just missing the logo?

Bypassing the debate, I love the watch, and it has given me ideas also (B&R Phantom, or one of these?)

Great looking watch
I hope it lives up to your expectations when it arrives.
What was the lead time from when you confirmed the desired spec?

3 days + postage and that was over a weekend. Confirmed Friday night - some last minute clarifications on Saturday as to whether I wanted brushed or polished crown guard and in the post Monday.

Email communication is also very prompt and he will advise freely e.g. when originally discussing the 'ceramic PVD' he said black straps don't work with it, tells you what the base colour on the lume is and what the other options are to tint the daylight colour - RED lume appears pink - best to dye red for daylight, Blue lume is off white can dye aqua thru to blue etc. He never appeared to get narked by some english berk asking him loads of questions.

Sales service has been excellent.
