Hello all,
just joined the forum and looking for advice please. Have been to see a 05 C320 CDI sport with 62k on it at a MB dealer and really liked it. I am a cash buyer with no trade in, so after initially saying there would be no discount on the car the dealer phoned and offered me £800 of the asking price.
Not bad I thought, but figured I should probably try and get the warranty increased to 3 years. The dealer has given a different price the two times I have asked, £1600 and then £1700 for the 3 year cover, it comes with one year cover as standard. I asked for a discount on the warranty and was told that MB set that price and they can't do anything with it. I was under the assumption that dealers tend to make a fair amount out of a warranty and there would be room to negotiate. Am I asking for too much to get something off the 3 year cover or should I just buy the car and get it covered myself?
I would have thought dealers would be dreaming for a cash buyer with no trade-in in the current climate.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure which MB dealer you are talking to but was having a word with the service guy at our local MB dealer, picking up my C220 CDi after a service.
Said they would do anything to sell a car.
I would say that you want at least 10-15% off the asking price, ask for a service whether it needs one or not and maybe pay the full asking price for the extended warranty

The dealer is a MB dealer in Giffnock, Glasgow. The price is 13,800, they offered me it for 13k, after which I mentioned the warranty. The salesman is saying he can't go lower than 13k and can't do anything on the warranty. Car is dues a service in 6k. I think MB do it if it less than 4k away. I'm a bit surprised aswell that they are not willing to negotiate more.

Tell them £11.5k in cash you'll buy today. Then leave. They'll cave.
When I bought my car from MB dealer a service was due in 4K miles, they said that they were only obliged to service if within 3K miles, told them I would not buy if not serviced, which they then agreed to do. It does not cost them much to do. It seems quite a fair price for the car but they should still be offering 10% discount. Also the extended warrenty is not as good as the inital 3 year manufactures warranty. Ask for a full explanation and something in writing. My wifes friend bought a 2003 C200 from MB but had trouble with her warrenty when a petrol breather pipe split requireing the tank to be removed, they suggested that initially cost would not be accepted by MB.Bit of argueing changed that
