328 touring 1996 'nAir rushing noise after engine turned off

When I turn the engine off after running for a while I get a rushing noise(probably air )inside the boot near the petrol tank.
There is a solenoid in the boot (air circulation?), which you hear click, but the rush of air comes aftrerwards....Any clues???

Possibly not connected since I dont know much about the 328 but I had a similar experience on my E39 523 touring. Thereafter one of the bellows (air suspension) on one side of the car failed and one side fell down onto the bump stops. Cost around £250 to fix one side. Does the 328 have air susp?

Sounds like it's the EVAP system working.
When the engine is stopped the petrol tank is vented to the atmosphere via pipework and valves to a carbon canister in the engine bay (if the pressure builds up in the tank). Carbon has the effect of trapping and holding onto any hydrocarbon nasties as the vapor passes through it and vents clean air to the atmosphere. At a predetermined point after the engine has been running, air is drawn from the atmosphere, back into the vent pipe through the carbon canister sucking any hydrocarbons trapped in the carbon canister into the engine to be burnt. I am guessing but it sounds like the solenoid you heard is the vent solenoid to the carbon canister operating after the engine has been turned off.
