Sorry, race was a bit of a tangent to the original question posed so with PT's permission I'll just change it and hope I don't get immediately locked.

If you stick your hand out a window and flap up and down, is that a sign that you're slowing down.
I often have occasion either to request someone to slow down or to tell others I'm going slow for a reason.

I live in a country area with lots of horses and sometimes try to warn cars coming the other way especially as a horse died last year from an RTA, also on occasion I warn motorists coming the other way of accident or BIB.

Trouble is I don't know how to make the sign of a horse or a BIB, and I think you will gather from my last post that waving your hand up and down (which I thought was a sign either to slow down or I'm slowing down) was probably interpreted as a completely different hand gesture.

I would recognise the up-down flapping of an arm as a sign to slow down or that your slowing down, and is I believe an appropriate way to signal such.

So would I, but it depends on who it's coming from - If it's coming from the old git in a metro you just over took who's been blocking you from over taking by driving at 30 MPH in an NSL for the last 10 miles, you generally ignore it, however if i had been following someone at speed and then suddenly did that I would be rather cautious and probably slow down.
